The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. We want to see a world where trees and woods thrive for people and nature. The Trust engages and inspires people to make their difference tackling the nature and climate crisis helping protect, restore and create our vital woods and trees.

THE ROLE
As our Operations Support Manager with emphasis on forestry standards, you will be the ‘go-to’ person and topic lead in the organisation on all aspects of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) estate management compliance and other emerging standards which could involve Natural Capital and Ecosystem Services. You will be our representative with both FSC-UK and UKWAS.

You will be leading and supporting on operational policy / guidance, development and reviews, ensuring high forestry standards, setting up reporting systems and keeping abreast of latest research and developments within FSC/UKWAS and woodland and land management. As well as co-ordinating our internal audit team, you will help provide UK-wide advice and training to enable regional teams to deliver and support on all aspects of estate and land management and our FSC certification.

THE CANDIDATE
You’ll have experience of FSC / UKWAS requirements with audit experience. You’ll need to be able to demonstrate both empathy and knowledge of working within the context of sensitive habitats and public pressure challenges.

With strong leadership skills, you’ll be an outstanding developer of relationships, able to network and build influence with outside organisations and key external partners whilst representing the Trust in a professional, competent and positive manner. In the absence of direct line-management responsibility, ideally you will be comfortable using coaching techniques to effectively influence operations colleagues.

You must also be able to demonstrate the ability to work effectively with others understanding different perspectives and adapting your approach as situations change and inspiring others to work towards a positive solution.

WHAT TO EXPECT BY JOINING A TEAM AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE
There’s no other organisation like the Woodland Trust. Joining the team you will be making your contribution to tackling the nature and climate crisis. In return, we recognise and value our people. You'll have our full support, training and opportunities for professional development, along with a contributory pension, life assurance, good holiday allowance and the opportunity to work flexibly from home.

OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
At the Woodland Trust, we want to reflect and represent the full richness of diversity in the UK. Fewer of our employees are Black, Asian or minority ethnic; disabled; from lower socio-economic backgrounds or under 25; so we are particularly keen to receive your application if you are from one or more of these groups. We can also discuss anything you may need to achieve your full potential at any stage of the process. We assess your application solely on your demonstrated suitability for the job. Nothing else.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications. If you are interested, we'd encourage you to submit your application as early as possible.
