Job Description

The Scottish Qualifications Authority is Scotland’s national awarding and accreditation body. We are trusted to oversee thousands of qualifications that are available in schools, colleges and workplaces, not just in this country, but around the world.

We are looking for an Operations Manager who can lead and manage an operational team to ensure the successful delivery of a range of critical business activities.

Our team’s primary role is to support learners who have additional support needs to access our National Qualifications. We also run a number of processes that ensure equality of access and fairness for learners. To do this we work closely with schools and colleges to understand learner needs and help deliver solutions that support the learner and protect the integrity of SQA assessments.

You will lead the effective planning and delivery of a range of these processes; and need to take a customer-centric approach in your work. You will display a strong improvement focus and a caring approach to staff management and towards customers. To do this, you must be able to demonstrate relevant experience of:

  • Leading an operational team to successfully plan and deliver operational plans
  • Managing and supporting individuals across a team to be effective contributors to the team and organisation
  • Evaluating, developing and implementing processes and use effective reporting methods and tools to deliver an efficient and effective service
  • Communicating in writing, or verbally, to a high standard, and being able to respond empathetically to complex information and sensitive situations
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders to ensure a high level of customer service

Additionally, you must:

  • Must have operational, logistical or data planning experience gained in a complex, evolving environment
  • Strong line management experience within multi-disciplinary teams, with a track record of empowering and developing staff
  • Have strong IT and numeracy skills
  • Be a team player

Applicants, as a minimum, should be educated to SCQF Level 8 (HND/SVQ 4) and/or be able to demonstrate direct relevant experience for this role.

SQA offer a fantastic benefits package in return for your talent. These include but are not limited to a career average pension scheme; staff well-being and health assistance programmes; development opportunities and 27 days annual leave in addition to 14 days public holiday.

If you think you’ve got the skills, knowledge and experience required to succeed in this exciting opportunity, please apply.
