JOB SUMMARY

The Role: Operations Manager

This is a forward thinking leadership role responsible for the day to day running of the warehousing and haulage operation and meeting client expectations. You’ll be working closely with the Directors to ensure the continuity and smooth running of the business. With responsibility of overseeing key business activities and meeting client expectations, you’ll keep a close eye on the detail of all key metrics, taking decisive and effective action that has a genuine impact in the business, when needed.

You’ll use your leadership skills, expertise, knowledge of our products and sector specialism, to continually improve and ensure business goals are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day to day operations, including planning and routing, allocating resources client communication, and making day to day decisions relating to transport, stock, people, and processes to ensure the continuity and smooth running of the business.
  • Create, implement & review day to day policies & procedures based on the Directors strategic goals for profitable growth and business efficiency and job accuracy.
  • Set priorities and performance expectations by leading, organising, managing and leading a range of activities including, transport, warehouse and accurate customer order fulfillment.
  • Displaying positive leadership, motivating effective communication and strategic cross team working to ensure unity across the Company and that all work is completed to the satisfaction of the Directors.
  • Overseeing staff performance, training and development and taking any day to day decisions as required and ensure all people on site adopt and endorse the Company’s brand promise and core values.
  • Liaise with Directors, Managers, Staff and external contractors to ensure business goals for growth are met.
  • Oversee customer management, non-conformances and resolving any issues.
  • Making improvements to the financial performance of the company, by monitoring costs and ensuring the operation runs efficiently.
  • Ensure the business runs within the parameters of HR, H&S and other legal obligations.
  • Liaise with the Directors to report on performance and key metrics on a structured basis.
  • Use your expertise to support your team, maximise employee engagement, promote solid working relationships with others and collaboration across the Company.

Role Requirements

  • Process driven but with the ability to adapt when plans change
  • Communicates well and builds effective working relationships
  • Good people management and coordination
  • Have an analytic / logical mind with excellent geographical knowledge for planning and routing.
  • Display tact, diplomacy and calmness when managing people or liaising with customers, particularly when under pressure
  • Excellent business / financial acumen
  • Extensive knowledge of the transportation industry
