Job description

Operations Manager – International Family Tracing
Location: UK Flexible
Contract type: Permanent
Hours per week: 35 (typically Mon – Fri)
Salary: up to £35,747 per annum

We want people with missing loved ones to be connected. Could you use your Operational Management skills to help shape our Restoring Family Links function and contribute to our strategy 2030?

We have an exciting and unique opportunity for an Operations Manager to lead our International Family Tracing team. Working closely with the Head of Restoring family links and other Operations Managers, you will be responsible for the delivery and development of our International Family Tracing activity.

You will help create and embed a new UK-wide surge team to strengthen ways of working so that we are collectively successful and align our efforts and resources behind a shared vision. The work you will be involved in is varied and dynamic and will include complex casework for people in vulnerable situations, leading on the continuous improvement of the service, performance and resource management, and ensuring our services meet users’ needs and are accessible.

Working flexibly and collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation, you ensure the continued delivery of a consistent, responsive and accessible service to demonstrate maximum impact for the people we support.

How you’ll make a difference

We support people who have been displaced because of armed conflict, disaster and migration daily in our front-line work. These are people in vulnerable situations who have often experienced trauma and are highly susceptible to prolonged destitution, homelessness, exploitation and abuse, as well as the distress of being separated from loved ones.

Our team is connected by the common goal of working with people who have experienced displacement to feel safe and live with dignity. You’ll work collaboratively with tracing Areas across the UK and the wider Migration & Displacement team (the Refugee Support, Restoring Family Links, Anti-Trafficking and Psychosocial & Mental Heath (RSRFLATPMHT) directorate), and external partners, to ensure our service users are provided with high quality, holistic, person-centred support.

This will be an incredibly rewarding role and will help us to achieve our mission of working with people in crisis; you'll be making a tangible difference to the lives of the people we support.

This Operations Manager role may be the perfect opportunity for you if…
  • You are excited at the prospect of helping to create and embed a new team.
  • You can work independently, can make informed decisions, and trust your experience and instinct when situations are ambiguous.
  • You can develop appropriate service delivery processes, mechanisms and systems, and their monitoring and evaluation.
  • You have effective relationship management skills and can build and maintain strong and effective alliances at a senior level.
  • You can use and operate delivery performance measures and report on delivery outcomes.
  • You have a working knowledge of the government, statutory and voluntary sectors in which the BRC operates.
  • You understand relevant context in which people are separated, including current and past conflict situations.
  • You have previous experience managing a multi-disciplinary team working with vulnerable people.
  • You understand casework and client needs, including experience of working with clients who have experienced trauma.
We would welcome applications from those who have personal experience of migration and/or family separation due to conflict or natural disaster. Although not essential, we welcome candidates who have fluency in Ukrainian and/or Russian languages.

Closing date for applications is 23:59 on Thursday 8th June 2023 with interviews expected to take place on Wednesday 14th June.
