Brighton and Newhaven Fish are one of the leading suppliers of fresh fish and seafood products on the south coast and operate out of the Eastern end of Shoreham Harbour.
They are known for high quality, day caught local fish and shellfish direct from a fleet of inshore fishing boats, and their offering is complemented by the finest quality fish (wild and farmed) from around the UK and further afield, allowing them to maintain a consistent supply even during periods of poor weather or when certain species are out of season locally.
Our client is looking for an Operations Manager to oversee the full cycle of production for their fish wholesale and retail outlet.
The postholder will be responsible for ensuring operations run smoothly 24/7. This includes, overseeing the management of the Day and Night teams and the on-site retail outlet, responsibility for upholding site cleanliness and hygiene standards, ensuring sales and stock operations are accurate and efficient as well as other management tasks to support the Directors, such as audit reporting.
The Operations Manager will use their initiative to suggest and implement improvements to ensure that the Company works efficiently and to the highest possible standards. This role will be responsible for direct management of supervisors in all areas of the Company and will report into the Directors.
About You
You will have a proven history of successfully managing operations and a willingness to learn about fish with a ‘can do’ attitude. You will use great leadership to oversee operations in all areas of the business and to support and motivate the supervisors in managing their teams successfully.
You will be involved in all aspects of production so you will need great problem-solving and prioritisation skills. You should have confidence in making and communicating operational decisions, taking into consideration the ‘big picture’. You will also be willing to get stuck in and roll up your sleeves to make things happen.
You will be known for your high standards and attention to detail and be able to question when things don’t look right. You will use your initiative to improve processes. You will want the environment you work in to be clean and exceed the hygiene standards of any inspection.
You will also be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the data that is recorded and reported in relation to stock, sales, HR and Health and Safety. You will provide accurate and helpful management reports to the Directors and support with strategic planning.

The working hours for day shifts are from 5am until ‘finish’, which tends to be around 2 or 3pm. The successful candidate will understand the nature of a 24/7 operation could involve occasionally working additional hours or being contacted outside of their standard working hours.

Salary: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
