Operations Manager
Location: Flexible/Hybrid from CVS Inverclyde’s offices in Greenock (2 days per week/negotiable)
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Salary: £34,917 + 5% pension contribution (pay award pending)
Hours: 28 – 35 hours per week to be agreed with the successful candidate

Role
CVS Inverclyde are looking for an Operations Manager due to retirement of a long serving and much valued staff member. This is a unique opportunity to join and assist in the operational leadership of CVS Inverclyde as a part of our Senior Management Team.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the post holder will work to strengthen the sector through supporting and managing the delivery of organisational development and capacity building support to the voluntary, community and third sector in 4 core areas including governance, organisational development, volunteering and social enterprise. They are responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of our programmes and creating new opportunities for service development. The post holder will represent CVS Inverclyde on key strategic boards and strengthen and develop our partnerships throughout the 3rd sector.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the voluntary sector and experience of networking between organisations and sectors. A solid understanding of financial and budgetary processes would be advantageous. It is likely that the post holder will have an established track record in a leadership role whilst maintaining a flexible approach to their work. The post holder will also be required to have a clean driving licence and/or access to a car and driver.
Core Responsibilities
Developing our People
- Providing leadership, direction and motivation for staff involved in the day-to-day delivery of services and community engagement
- Ensure plans in place for training and developing staff to build capacity and capability to suit business needs
- Building and maintaining a high-performance culture, evidenced through effective management of performance, with poor performance being actively and positively managed
- Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with the senior management team, and the Board where required
- Contributing to the development and implementation of operational plans and structures that are fit for purpose
- Provide strategic support to the CEO and deputise for the CEO as appropriate.
Developing our Relationships
- Maintaining effective working relationships with staff, Board and members of the organisation
- Developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders including the third sector, elected members and senior officials of Inverclyde Council, the Scottish
Government, national infrastructure organisations and existing and potential external funders
- Ensuring that the organisation maintains a high positive public profile through effective management of the communications function including our annual conference.
Delivering our Services
- Ensuring that the day-to-day operations of the organisation are effectively and efficiently managed and conducted within the framework and timescales agreed with funders
- Delivering capacity building support and guidance to groups governance, organisational development, volunteering and social enterprise, ensuring that they are informed of the regulatory and legal information necessary, with a focus on enabling groups and third sector to support themselves
- Supporting the broader work of CVS Inverclyde in developing a strong Third Sector, including delivery of training, workshops and policy development relevant to the speciality areas connected with this post.
- Ensuring effective management of the operations functions of CVS Inverclyde including
HR, H&S, IT and finance to ensure that there are efficient and effective systems, processes and policies in place to support our people and projects.
- Supporting the Chief Executive with administrative tasks relating to the organisations finances
- Managing the reporting of performance against an outcome framework agreed with funders
- Support the delivery of the organisation’s Strategic Plan
- Implementing stringent project management processes to ensure the timely and cost- effective development of services and provide line management to Project Managers
- Identifying opportunities for service development and income generation
General Duties
- To contribute to the efficient delivery of CVS Inverclyde objectives and workplans.
- To work collectively across the CVS Inverclyde Team and the wider TSI Network in a collaborative, respectful, fair and honest manner; always undertaking to represent the organisation in an appropriate manner and with the integrity expected by CVS Inverclyde.
- To maintain accurate and up-to-date records using the MILO database and any other data systems used by CVS Inverclyde.
- To prepare and assist with reports, media articles and any other monitoring requirements.
- To attend internal and external meetings as required by CVS Inverclyde.

Qualifications and Experience
Educated to degree level or equivalent ✓
Experience of working within the Third Sector for more than ✓ two years
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a senior leadership role ✓ with line management experience
High level of understanding and expertise in the practical ✓ application of governance, trustee and charity law.
Experience of delivering training and/or one to one advice work ✓
Experience of development within a small/medium ✓ organisation.
Experience of governance from the perspective of working or ✓ volunteering within the Third Sector.
Experience of hosting and facilitating networks & meetings ✓ both online and in-person.
Knowledge & Skills
Good understanding and knowledge of the practical ✓ application of organisational development, capacity building, training and support principles, policy and practice, in voluntary sector.
Ability to interpret and communicate complex information in a ✓ user-friendly manner when dealing with enquiries.
Knowledge of the third sector, ideally in Inverclyde or across ✓
Glasgow City Region.
Knowledge of existing support, training and tools available to ✓ the Third Sector in Inverclyde
Knowledge of charity law/regulation ✓
Knowledge of infrastructure support for available at a national ✓ level.
An ability to communicate to a high standard both written and ✓ verbal.
