The hours are worked over 5 days per week, including bank holidays. You may be required to work weekends on a rota to cover wider operational duties.
This is an exciting opportunity to manage a dynamic operational team with a reputation for delivering high quality services, in a front facing customer role.
- You must be able to demonstrate extensive operational experience of managing kerbside recycling collections, transfer station operations and mini recycling centres.
- You will have proven time served experience of managing frontline operations with a large unionised workforce in a busy high pressure environment.
- Essential criteria for the role is to be a COTC holder for a Hazardous Waste transfer station as you will be responsible for managing a permitted waste facility. The Transfer station / materials recycling facility serves the unloading of Kerbside Collection vehicles and materials processing plant.
- You will need to be a self-motivated individual with a business approach that is geared to meet the financial challenges ahead and will be able to demonstrate management of budgets, cost control, efficiency savings and continuous operational improvement.
- A demonstrable strong health and safety background is essential. You will be a minimum of an IOSH holder and either possess or be prepared to gain a NEBOSH qualification within 12 months of employment.
- You will be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of the principal hazards involved with kerbside collections and waste processing.
- You will have proven experience of delivering Health and Safety training, Toolbox talks, compiling Risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
- You will work closely with the Deputy Head of Waste Operations to ensure the smooth running and oversight of Ashmead Rd Recycling Depot and Transfer Station.
- You may be required to work across all of our Neighbourhood operational services (waste collections, recycling, cleansing, fleet, parks, grounds maintenance etc.) and provide management cover & support as required.
- You will be entrepreneurial and someone who relishes a challenge, with the confidence to be able to deputise for the Deputy Head of Waste Operations.
- You will have strong team management skills.
- You will have proven people skills and customer service skills, together with the ability to apply strategic thinking to challenges as they arise. You will have a “customer first” approach and the gravitas be able to manage appropriate team behaviours in this regard, ensuring that organisational values are adhered to.
- You will be highly numerate with good organisational and analytical skills, and should be a proficient user of Microsoft Packages including Excel and Word.
- Desirable –you will have an HGV Licence.
- You will represent the waste operational services at service planning, partnership, contract & regulatory meetings.
Your main place of work will be Bath Transfer Station (but will also be required to work on other sites across the Bath and North East Somerset area)’
