Operations Manager: Barton Storage Systems Limited.
We are a trade only supplier of storage, materials handing and access products. Our distributor network serves both national and international marketplaces. Although we are a longstanding company of over 55 years, recent business improvements have resulted in a sustained period of significant growth. We thus need an experienced and driven Operations Manager to join our senior management team. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this role will be ideal for someone working to progress their career and gain wider commercial exposure.
Effective internal and external operations will be critical for the ongoing success and growth of our company. As such, the ideal candidate for this role will need to be driven, conscientious and comfortable working within a fast-moving warehousing and distribution environment.
This is a new role within our business, so we require a ‘self-starter’, as you will need to develop and build your team and create the processes to support the businesses ambitious growth plan.
Operations Manager Main Job Responsibilities:
- The achievement of committed service levels to the customer base.
- Ensuring all inbound and outbound “logistics” flows are set up to support the market proposition of the business.
- Set and maintain both team and individual performance objectives in the key areas of Warehouse productivity and service quality.
- Streamline any bottlenecks in daily warehouse operations.
- Ensure that all the relevant Health & Safety requirements are in place and subject to regular review.
- Manage the inbound and outbound transport requirements and the associated third- party providers.
- Ensure the transport costs are constantly reviewed so best possible value in being obtained.
- Reporting on all aspects of warehouse operations to the rest of the business.
- Ensuring successful Inventory management processes are established, including the management of “returns”.
- Support with establishing policy regarding “pack sizes”, pallet sizes and all the other relevant size and dimension aspects of the physical operation.
- Coordinates with fellow members of the team to monitor inventory and determine supply needs. Particularly the Phasing In/Out of SKUs as part of the commercial offer plan.
- Develops a sustainability programme with the active engagement of the supply chain and contributes to the Company “net zero carbon” strategy.
- Supports sales campaigning as appropriate through engagement with the other senior team members.
- Take responsibility for property maintenance issues in the companies sites.
- Manage any off-site storage and supplier related inbound logistics needs that may arise.

Operations Manager Qualifications/Skills:
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Strong Team leadership skills.
- Prior proven experienced in a fast-moving warehousing and logistics environment.
- Strong experience in optimising available space, improving productivity and enhancing stock management performance.
- A passion for customer service and continuous improvement.
- Strong prior experience of managing outsourced Transport providers.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to use relevant IT tools to plan and control operational performance.
- Customer and commercial focus.

Education, Experience, & Licensing Requirements:
- Proven experience in leading a team of warehouse staff.
- A qualification in supply chain management, logistics, or business administration preferred.
- Certification or training in warehouse safety procedures or on the pathway for such qualifications.
- Experience in working with ERP/MRP systems to track inventory flows.
- Hands experience of dealing with an international/Asia/China supply chain.
- Experience of being in a relatively similar business model. Distribution/Wholesale/Industrial Commodities etc…
- Experience in coaching and mentoring and commitment team development.
- Experience of working in a business that has undertaken a digital migration is an advantage.
