The Operations Technician is part the team responsible for the operation and first line maintenance of high-pressure complex plant and equipment, and handling hazardous substances.
Operations Technicians ensure that all production and injection targets and terminal activity plans are carried out safely, on time, in compliance with current legislation and within budget.
The operations team provides a first line of communication for the offshore installations in the event of any incident or emergency with all response services onshore.
Jobholders must be extremely versatile to be able to undertake the duties and responsibilities of an Operations Technician.
The Role
- Act as designated Control Room Operator (CRO) and Outside Operator roles. Monitor, control and record operational parameters of equipment
- Act as Performing Authority and Isolating Technician (Process) within the SSOW (ORM)
- Act as Authorised Gas Tester/Location Technician
- Operates and performs first line maintenance to gas processing and utility equipment to the required standards of safety, good environmental practice and efficiency.
- Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, prepares equipment for planned preventative and breakdown maintenance and returns equipment to service in a safe and orderly manner.
- Completes task hazard assessments forms and utilises the outcomes to assess any impact with respect to major accident prevention and to workplace safety and environmental precautions.
- Monitors all work in progress to ensure the continuation of safe working and good environmental practices.
- Identifies and reports all equipment defects and abnormalities on equipment. Raises and progresses work order defects through the system.
- Monitors/controls and records running parameters of equipment.
- Adheres to all relevant operating procedures, safe operating practices and company procedures and policies.
- Ensures any information or occurrence of an abnormal nature is reported to the Operations Supervisor.
- Maintains radio watch relating to the status of all operated offshore platforms and to facilitate rapid response to any abnormal situation, which develops offshore.
- Carries out the duties as described in the Rough Facilities Incident and Emergency Response plans.
- Participates as required in the CSL audit and inspection programmes.
- Operation of all Onshore and Offshore equipment were required (NUI)
- Ensures a comprehensive handover, both written and verbal, to communicate to the oncoming shift team details of on-going operations and equipment status in order to safeguard continuity of safety and environmental precautions and plant and equipment availability.
- Obtains, checks and reports hourly figures to the Operations Supervisor and Offshore control room and indicates projected status to meet nomination and current rates. Advises relevant personnel in the event of a potential shortfall situation.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Operations or engineering knowledge of Onshore gas production facilities, or comparable process, industrial equipment
- Demonstrable knowledge of a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) in relation to maintenance work planning, and materials management (CSL use SAP).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with the MS office suite of applications
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize own workload in the face of competing demands
- Ability to thrive within a highly regulated, structured environment.
- High levels of internal resilience, self-drive, and motivation
- Strong personal organisational, collaborative, communication, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with own team and interface with all levels of the organisation.
- Must be comfortable inside and outside work, physically demanding, working at height.
- Completed an apprenticeship (or other recognised training scheme) and hold a BTEC National Certificate (or equivalent City & Guilds NVQ/SVQ Level 3) Plant or Process Operations
