Job description
About Lattice
Lattice is building tools and infrastructure to make building complex, large-scale blockchain applications possible. Our goal is to take blockchain applications beyond just finance and speculation, to encompass playful use-cases such as games, virtual worlds, social apps, and P2P consumer apps. We want to transition Ethereum from a financial computer to its original ambition as the World Computer.
Specifically, we’re building MUD (https://mud.dev), an open-source framework for building large-scale blockchain applications, and are developing infrastructure products designed for MUD applications.
Lattice also houses an in-house game studio designing and creating MUD-based games and apps, both as consumer-facing products and to push the boundaries of our technology.
We are a small team of 10 people, with 4 of us based in our London office. Our whole company comes together in team retreats quarterly, with the last one held in Mexico.
We’re a mission-driven team, and we believe in:
- Open source — Open Source at the core of our software output; no business source license and other shenanigans
- Operator owned — A company owned by its operators and employees
- Community native — We are as good and creative as the community we foster
- Ethereum aligned — Aligned with the Ethereum ecosystem, protocol, and technology
- Intellectually honest — Truth-seeking at all cost
- We don’t suck all the air in the room - We provide the means for others in the community to shine and thrive
Lattice is funded entirely by grants from organizations such as 0xPARC Foundation and Optimism Foundation. We turned down major funding offers from Paradigm, a16z, and other top VCs.
When we eventually build revenue generating protocols and products, we aim to capture a part of the value and redistribute as much as possible to the ecosystem and other open source software.
The Job
The Operations Lead role is a hands-on position with tasks across HR, finance & accounting, legal, and events. Responsibilities will include:
- Human resources: hiring support, employee onboarding and offboarding, employee experience, benefits, compliance
- Finance & accounting: managing external accountants, payroll, accounts payable, invoicing
- Legal: managing external lawyers, contract management, workers visa
- Events: organizing and planning of external events (e.g. conferences, symposiums, hackathons), company retreats, team travel support
As you grow within this role, we expect you to drive our operations end-to-end with a great degree of autonomy. As the Operations Lead, you will be responsible for our operational efficiency and excellence, and be at the helm of launching and executing new operations initiatives. This may involve creating a best-in-class employee experience program, running a 500+ pax event end-to-end, launching a new HR management system, amongst other things.
As the company expands, you will have the opportunity to hire and build out the operations team, with a path to a leadership position within our operations function.

- Strong knowledge in HR, finance, and legal matters
- Experience in event planning and coordination
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to coordinate across different teams and stakeholders
Some other values we look for in all Lattice team members are:
- No task too small - we have ownership and responsibility over the full stack and we help in any way we can
- We prioritize ruthlessly - our time and resources are limited; we focus our energies on tasks that have the greatest impact on our mission and goals
- We care about the details - Quality lies in the details, and we strive for excellence in everything we do, from the largest project to the smallest task.
- We work hard - our work is important; we work with urgency and intent
- We think independently - we think from first principles and approach problems creatively
- Code that doesn’t run in production is worth nothing - theoretical or experimental work has little value until it is effectively implemented
