Job description
We are looking to appoint an Operations and Office Manager to join the Department of Politics and International Relations. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a new role, created after a review of the Department’s operational and administrative support function. The post holder with lead a team of three, with overall responsibility for the smooth running of all operational functions and services within the Department. Using initiative to make considered judgements when juggling the demands placed on them, the post holder will work in support of all professional services teams to ensure that research and teaching are supported effectively. The position is permanent and full-time.
The successful applicant will work closely with colleagues within the Department, Facilities Management, IT, Estates and Division to ensure effective and efficient systems and procedures – and compliance – across operations management, health and safety, the Department’s space, IT management and support of faculty administration and governance.
Areas of responsibility will include managing administrative systems and procedures within the Department, business continuity planning, operational matters relating to health and safety, building and space configuration and projects, acting as lead contact for DPIR for IT issues, acting as secretary to relevant committees, and managing a small team. The postholder will also be a member of the Department’s Professional Services Senior Management Team.
The position requires sound judgment, versatility, communication skills and a problem-solving, positive and flexible attitude. The postholder will need to develop successful working relationships with academics and colleagues across the Department and the wider University.
You will be educated to degree level or have equivalent skills and experience. You will also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to produce well-presented reports, guidance and instructions, and prior experience of project management. You will be self-motivated and pro-active and have experience of supervising or managing staff.
