PBC Guru is a startup based in Maryland, just outside Washington DC. Our company brings the idea of a traditional in-person book club into the 21st century with a combination of technology and human facilitation to create meaningful online communities around books. About the Role
We're looking for someone who wants to be an integral part of growing our company as part of our mission to help people on their journey of lifelong learning. Does that sound like you?
The position is 100% remote. The position starts at $18 per hour with increases up to $22 per hour based on time with the company.
Responsibilities Include:
Finance
- Preparing, sending, and following up on invoices (via email or phone) to ensure timely payment
- Providing timely and accurate responses to customer inquiries regarding payment status, contract terms, and other financial matters, ensuring their concerns are addressed and resolved effectively
- Filling out and updating vendor registration forms for customers on behalf of the company, ensuring accuracy and completeness of information
- Updating customer financial records in the CRM system and ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Assisting with various bookkeeping tasks, including maintaining financial records, reconciling accounts, and categorizing transactions
- Provide other ad hoc support as needed
Legal
- Managing legal contract modification process, including reviewing, revising, and tracking changes to source document across multiple software products
- Collaborating with customer legal teams to review, update, and modify contracts, ensuring their accuracy and alignment with the company's guidelines and objectives
- Following up with stakeholders to obtain necessary signatures for renewals or contract extensions
- Provide other ad hoc support as needed
People Operations
- Supporting people operations by assisting with tasks including employee onboarding, benefits administration, and maintaining HR records
- Responding to internal inquiries from employees regarding company policies, benefits, and related matters
- Supporting the tracking and reconciling of expense reimbursements, verifying their compliance with company policies
- Provide other ad hoc support as needed
Qualifications:
- Are consistently available for 20 to 30 hours per week
- Looking to be in a role like this for at least the next 2-3 years
- Bachelor's Degree
- Excellent attention to detail
- Tech-savvy initiative-taker with a demonstrated capacity to work on projects with minimum supervision, understand objectives, and produce top-quality deliverables
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with an understanding of different approaches and best practices
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of business operations through previous work experience or internships
- Adaptability and strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent active listening skills
- Ability to build rapport and collaborate with others within the company and externally
- Demonstrated interest and experience with customer care and support
- Ability to collect and analyze data, spot trends, evaluate and recommend tools to enhance internal processes
- Commitment to collective learning, program design and iterative learning
- Passion for reading many different kinds of books
- Prior experience in finance, bookkeeping, or a related field is preferred
- Prior experience working in human resources or people operations is preferred
