Table Tennis Ireland (the Association) is the National Governing Body for Table Tennis within the 4 individual provinces of Ireland. Table Tennis has demonstrated over the years that it is a sport suitable for all age groups, from juniors to veterans, as well as able bodied and those with a disability. The Association’s head office is in Irish Sport HQ at the Sport Ireland National Sports Campus (Dublin).
Table Tennis Ulster (TTU) is a provincial Branch of Table Tennis Ireland (TTI) and is responsible for promoting and developing the sport in Ulster. TTU has an Office at Lisburn Racquets Club, Lisburn.
TTU and TTI have been successful in securing Sport NI Sports System Investment funding (supported by National Lottery Funding). The funding will support the development of opportunities for participation in the sport of table tennis in Ulster focusing on the priority areas of retention and growth, pathway access and equality, diversity and inclusion.
Reporting to General Manager, and and taking direction from TTU Sports System Investment Oversight Group, this role will be an 8 month fixed term contract and the position will be based at Lisburn Racquets Club (36 Belfast Road, Lisburn, BT27 4AS). The contract is initially to the end of March 2024 and maybe extended subject to confirmation of funding.
The role requires excellent leadership, project management, communication, collaboration, and organisational skills. The role is to support delivery of our Sport NI Sports System Investment Project Plan priorities. The Operational Supervisor (OS) will lead on the planning, design and successful implementation of the project plan and activities to be delivered to achieve the key objectives of the Sports System Investment funding. The Operational Supervisor will be supported in the delivery of the project plan priorities by Regional Development Officers (RDOs), Administration Officer (AO) and Participation & Inclusion Officer (PIO). The OS will act as the line manager for the RDOs, AO and PIO.The post holder will be required to work on their own initiative and as part of the wider Associations team.
Key responsibilities:
Project Planning
- Lead the development of the project plan for the activities to be delivered under the Sports System Investment, ensuring the plan will support the achievement of the objectives and KPIs under the investment priority areas - retention and growth, pathway access and equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Oversee and co-ordinate the implementation of the plan supported by TTU RDOs.
- Provide regular monitoring and review reports to TTI/TTU related to progress on the delivery of the project plan and KPIs.
- Liaise with Sport NI and provide regular monitoring and review reports as required to Sport NI in relation to the delivery of the project plan and KPIs.
- Co-ordinate the collation of datasets required for reporting against the project plan objectives and KPIs.
Staff Management
- Manage the team of RDOs who will deliver activities in line with the project plan and investment objectives.
- Provide support, advice and guidance to the RDOs in the development and delivery of project activities.
- Lead regular team meetings and review of project plan activities to ensure project outcomes are achieved.
- Identify training requirements for the team and other volunteers involved in project initiatives to support achievement of project outcomes.
Budget
- Oversee the budget (including staffing and equipment budgets) for activities to be supported by Sport NI Sports System Investment funding, ensuring activities supported are in line with project objectives.
- Monitor expenditure against budget and provide reports on expenditure in line with organisational and SNI governance requirements.
Engagement
- Support the RDOsin developing links with local Councils, third level institutions , Schools, Clubs, Leagues and other organisations in identifying and creating opportunities for increasing the number of people (able bodied and disabled) participating in table tennis which will support delivery of the project plan objectives.
- Act as a key point of contact in respect of Sports System Investment funding activities.
Administration / Promotion
- Comply with organisational policies and procedures in relation to project planning and delivery of activities.
- Assist with the review and update of organizational Policies and Procedures as required related to project plan activities.
- Promote and provide updates on project activities via TTI / TTU websites and other social media platforms.
Any other duties as required from time to time.
Competencies:
Qualifications: 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above including Mathematics and English (or equivalent) is essential. At least 1 A Level (or equivalent) and a relevant third level qualification (or equivalent) is desirable.
Previous Experience: 2 years experience of working in sport development activities and/or working with sports clubs and volunteers and/or demonstrable experience utilizing Microsoft office or equivalent is essential. Experience of managing staff, budgets and working with key sporting partners including SNI / local Councils is desirable.
Knowledge: Knowledge of the principles of sports development is essential and knowledge of table tennis in Ireland and Ulster (structure and strategy) is desirable.
Skills: Ability to be self-motivated, resourceful, work on own initiative in a flexible and co-operative manner. Excellent organisational skills, numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail. Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Be approachable, helpful and friendly. Ability to work with and liaise with staff and volunteers effectively. these criteria are all essential.
Other factors: Willingness to work out of normal office hours including evenings and weekends. Access to a form of transport that enables the post holder to meet the requirements of the role.
