Tutor with TU

Tutors United is an award-winning social enterprise on a mission to use the power of tutoring to break down barriers in education and enable every child to succeed. We deliver confidence-boosting, attainment-raising group tutorials to some of Planet Earth’s coolest primary school pupils. But we need your help! Currently we are on the lookout for tutors to join us on this exciting journey in September 2023.

We encourage interest and applications from students of all backgrounds and particularly welcome applications from male and black undergraduates to enable us to truly reflect the communities we work with.

Are you…

  • An undergraduate student (as of September 2023), studying in the UK?
  • Looking for a well-paid role designed to fit around your studies?
  • Passionate about making a difference?
  • Keen to learn and develop professional skills to boost your employability?

Then look no further! Our tutor role is perfect for you.

About the role:

  • Delivering at least two hours of Maths or English to a class of six Year 5- Year 6 students per week (with opportunities for more hours if you wish!).
  • Using our resources and lesson plans to deliver lessons, games and activities.
  • Providing written lesson feedback for parents.
  • Attending and participating in our professional skills-focused training days throughout the year.
  • Online

What we offer:

At TU, we want to help both our students and tutors succeed! As such, working with TU isn’t just a regular part time job. We will do our best to give you loads of opportunities to help you develop, work flexibly, and boost your employability so that you can get the job you want when you graduate. We offer:

  • A flexible part-time role alongside university studies based on your availability and location.
  • Competitive pay above London living wage: £13 per hour (online)
  • Access to internship opportunities to support you in your future career choices.
  • A fully planned and designed curriculum, complete with lesson plans and resources to save you time.
  • Professional, skills-focused training delivered by experts to help boost your employability.
  • Opportunities to take on additional responsibilities for more pay (such as marking assessments and tutor leadership).
  • A supportive team that accommodates to your needs as university students.
  • Rewarding and exciting work that truly makes a difference.
  • An Enhanced DBS check.
  • Employee references on completion of the programme.
  • Belonging to the wonderful TU community.

No prior experience required; we just ask that you:

  • Have a 6 or above (B or above) in Maths & English at GCSE level
  • Will be studying at undergraduate level as of September 2023 (we welcome and accept candidates from all subject areas!).
  • Are happy to tutor at least once per week on a weekday afternoon (usually 4.00pm-6.00pm).
  • Attend our subsequent three compulsory top-up training sessions throughout the 2023/24 academic year.
  • Have an existing right to work in the UK.
  • Share our vision to close the attainment gap in education.
  • Are punctual, keen to take on responsibility, and have a can-do attitude

Tutor Testimonials:

Working with TU is a great experience! But don’t just take our word for it, hear from some of our current / previous tutors:

  • “I love the fact that everyone on the team is really supportive and understanding and ensuring that the tutors are not pressured is one of their key priorities. From the first day, I have felt a sense of comfort and reassurance and the team and leaders ensure that you have everything needed for the lesson” - Hetal (2nd Year BA History Student)
  • “My time management has improved vastly, so much so that in fact I’ve managed to find more time to engage in other activities such as sports and societies. In addition to this, my communication and relationship-building skills have progressed, essential if I want to succeed in any chosen career”- Tarun (2nd year Aeronautics and Astronautics Engineering Student)
  • “Seeing students grasp new concepts, overcome challenges, and gain confidence in their abilities brings me immense joy and satisfaction. Witnessing the "aha" moments when they understand a difficult concept or successfully apply their knowledge is incredibly rewarding, knowing I have been able to help” - Jayden (1st year BSc Computer Science student)
