Who we're looking for
Schroders' trainee programme is your chance to gain a year of hands-on, paid work experience. If you've just finished your A-levels or your BTECs then this programme provides you with a chance to explore the world of work.
Although you may have never heard of Schroders before visiting our website, this traineeship could be for you because key to the purpose of the programme is to teach you about what, why and how we do what we do.
On this programme, you'll be part of our Compliance or Group Governance Teams within the Wealth or Infrastructure parts of our business.
As a trainee, you will receive ongoing training designed to develop throughout the year, where you will have the chance to improve your skills as well as your technical knowledge. We support you to take the Investment Foundation Certificate, which is a professional industry qualification and you'll be paid competitively above the London living wage.
The salary for this role ranges from £24k-25k.

Our base
We moved into our current HQ in the City of London in 2018. We're close to our clients, in the heart of the UK's financial centre. We offer flexible working appropriate for a client solutions focussed role. We offer flexible working arrangements, but would encourage the successful candidate to seek to spend at least 50% of their time in the office to optimise your learning opportunities.
Investment20/20
You will join as a trainee as part of the Investment20/20 programme, you will have opportunities to meet and network with trainees across the industry and participate in training, socials and insight events.
The team
The Group Governance (Corporate and Asset Management) teams based in the UK are responsible for the Schroders plc Group's (the “Group”) overall governance structure - companies, joint ventures, investment trusts and other funds. We provide company secretarial services to Schroders plc and the Group's UK subsidiaries, and certain overseas entities. We establish, implement, communicate and manage appropriate standards of governance for the Group.
What you will do
Governance may be described as the “glue that holds the business together and this opportunity should be of interest to anyone seeking to understand how a business is structured, the framework around how key decisions are made, the role of directors and stakeholders and how a business , monitors and complies with corporate laws and regulations.
This is a supporting role where, fundamentally, you will learn about office life in the financial services sector and, more specifically, the role of company secretaries and Governance within a global listed and regulated business. You will gain an understanding of the legislative and regulatory Governance requirements across the Schroders Group and listed funds and learn about some of the core aspects of the role of a company secretary.
As a trainee, you will also be performing a variety of administrative tasks and projects including:
- Supporting with Board meeting arrangements: scheduling and organising meetings and preparing and circulating related documentation
- Preparing for Annual General Meetings of Schroders plc and other listed entities
- Preparing and proof-reading first drafts of investment trust annual reports
- Drafting and releasing basic market announcements
- Drafting skeleton meeting minutes
- Assisting with the preparation of presentations
- Updating the Governance intranet webpage
- Undertaking research on governance topics
You will also have the opportunity to liaise with other trainees across the Governance team on collaborative projects.
- You must be 18 years old by 4 September to apply for the 2023 intake
- You must have gained A-levels (or equivalent) in any subjects – no minimum UCAS point required
