To work as part of a clinical administration team to support a defined team of clinicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals
Provide an efficient general administration day-to-day support to the Service. Duties will include providing a front of house reception service, collection and delivery of notes, filing, faxing and other general administrative duties
A vacancy has arisen for a full time Receptionist / Clinical Admin Assistant to work within the busy Outpatient Service at Northampton General Hospital.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join the team. The successful candidate will have a flexible and positive attitude, be methodical, committed team player, able to work under pressure, meet deadlines and have excellent customer services skills as this is a patient facing role.
An eye for detail is essential along with good IT skills.
The successful candidate must have experience in a clerical or receptionist role.
The candidate will need to have an understanding that this role will support various teams within the Outpatient service and will be required to move within the different departments of this service on a daily basis depending on service needs
The post holder will be required to work as part of the administration team and provide cross cover during
periods of staff absence within their existing team and other teams within the Directorate as and when
required. This support should be provided during the hours of 7.30am and 6pm flexibility of the hours are
essential and should be aligned to the Direct Clinical Care time of the Consultants for whom they support.

Provide a reception service to patients, relatives, carers and all staff groups.
Provide general administrative services as required by the department
Locate medical notes within a department or request them from other locations
Provide timely collection and delivery of medical notes when required
Photocopying, faxing and posting documentation
Deal with telephone or face-to-face enquiries within agreed limits and take appropriate actions
Update the relevant databases and patient information systems when required
Liaise with other hospital departments
Provide cross-cover within team during absence and implement relevant organisational policy on attendance management, staff appraisal, etc
Takes responsibility to ensure that Professional Registration is up to date at all times
and does not lapse or expire and to inform line management immediately with any
concerns of if registration lapses or expires (all registered staff).
This post involves access to patients and their data include children and/or adults at
risk, as defined by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). It will therefore be
necessary for the post holder to apply for and be in receipt of a satisfactory
The Trust requires all new starters to subscribe to the DBS update service, where it is
a requirement of the role.
Be responsible for maintaining own vaccinations that are applicable to the role.
Safeguard patient confidentiality at all times, including adherence to the Data
Protection Act.
Attend statutory and mandatory training and refresher courses as necessary.
