Position Summary
Purpose of the Role

To provide legal and commercial advice across Samsung’s range of products, services and activities to European business units, the Samsung affiliates across the European region, as well as to our Korean Headquarters. This role will focus on procuring services and supporting the marketing and partnership teams with European projects.
Role and Responsibilities
Your Key Responsibilities:
Provision of timely and detailed legal advice in relation to legal questions and drafting of relevant documentation, with a focus on:
  • Preparation and negotiation of a broad range of commercial contracts and associated documentation relating to the various EO business activities, including: master services agreements and related statements of work; pan-European framework agreements; confidentiality agreements; marketing and software services agreements; and partnership and influencer agreements.
  • Advising the business on how to structure deals and what contractual documentation should be in place, implementing the drafting of pan-EU contracts for the procurement of services and facilitating key projects / engagement with key partners and working with the European subsidiary legal teams as required in respect of the same;
  • Proactively seeking and coordinating input from other colleagues across the EO Legal Team and the business to drive results;
  • Identifying and communicating key areas of risk to the business and the potential impact of the same and developing and understanding risk mitigation strategies for contractual and business risks;
  • Developing and maintaining precedent agreements and all relevant end user documents;
  • Representing Samsung in internal and external meetings with key partners; and
  • Participating in knowledge sharing across the Team.
More generally, you will support the Senior Legal Counsel on complex matters and be responsible for contributing to the development of relevant lawyers and paralegals within the Team.
What we need for this role
To be successful, you will possess the following skills and attributes:
  • Experience in an outstanding Law Firm or major provincial firm, ideally with experience of working on the procurement side of a transaction.
  • Strong experience in contract negotiation and drafting.
  • Experience of working on pan-European framework agreements and/or cross-border deals would be beneficial.
  • Strong grasp of general commercial matters.
  • Experience advising a global consumer products brand.
  • In-house or secondment experience would be beneficial but not essential.
Candidates are encouraged to be patient, pragmatic and flexible. As well as being a good communicator, with attention to detail, the candidate should be culturally aware / sensitive and able to explain legal issues in clear terms that are easily understood. They need to be able to work under their own initiative to enable the business units to achieve their targets, although the role is to function and be coordinated within a small and close-knit legal team.
Capacity for broad issue spotting in relation to GDPR / privacy, IP and employment related issues is desirable.
Candidates need to understand and be committed to working within an “in-house” legal environment. They need to have excellent drafting and negotiation skills. Finally, they need to be able to work/communicate with, influence and provide mentorship to individuals at all levels of the organisation.
