Global Legal plays an important role in protecting HSBC’s reputation, helping to safeguard the organisation by providing robust and comprehensive advice on legal issues and risks. Our lawyers advise senior management and the Global Businesses and Functions. They offer a range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all the countries and territories in which HSBC operates.
The Senior Legal Counsel provides expert and professional legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that the legal and reputational risks faced by the area of coverage are identified, reported and mitigated. This role will typically report to an Associate General Counsel, Managing Associated General Counsel or Deputy General Counsel.
Responsibilities
- To help manage a large portfolio of litigation and regulatory matters across multiple European jurisdictions. Interaction and relationship building with stakeholders across a varaiety of levels of seniority, business line and jurisdiction is expected.
- To help manage external legal spend and support/drive productive, efficient and focused relationships with external providers and provide strategic advice on other contentious issues like customer complaints, nascent disputes as well as more general transaction or product related questions.
- To provide all advice and support with an understanding of non-standard legal, conduct and reputational risk – to ensure that such risks are identified, reported and mitigated.
- This person will have the ability to evaluate and respond to changes in legal and regulatory requirements as they arise.
- To help drive forward various wider initiatives/projects and to support the team in its interaction with and partnering of various Group wide functions.
- To maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with all team members, including by driving a high performance, inclusive culture.
Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
