Job description

WHO ARE WE?

The bigger picture: DEPT® is a pioneering technology and marketing services company that creates integrated end-to-end digital experiences for brands such as Google, TikTok, eBay, ASOS, Zoopla, Twitch, Patagonia and many, many more.

Our team of 4,000+ digital specialists across 30+ locations on five continents deliver pioneering work on a global scale with a boutique culture. We live and breathe our 'big enough to cope, small enough to care' ethos, providing an inclusive, supportive and an exciting place to accelerate your career.

JOB PURPOSE:

We are looking for a business-savvy, well-organised and highly motivated in-house Commercial Legal Counsel to strengthen our DEPT® legal team and support the business with proactive, pragmatic, and timely legal advice.

You will, under the supervision of the General Counsel (based in Amsterdam), partner and work closely with various colleagues throughout the organisation to lead and support the contracting process within established timelines. You will be able to work from our offices in the UK (located in Manchester and London) and remotely from home.

In this role you will be assisting the business with drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, including (technology, (digital) marketing and brand and advertising) agreements such as master service agreements and related statements of work, service level agreements, data privacy agreements (in collaboration with our Global Privacy Counsel/DPO) software licence agreements, supplier agreements (including agreements with social influencers and production agencies), and clients' terms and conditions.

As our Commercial Legal Council, you will be providing legal support to various business teams, including giving clearance advice to the advertising and production teams, and providing legal tools such as templates and training; all in a timely manner to maximise achievement of business strategies.

You will highlight and escalate concerns and potential solutions to the General Counsel and manage external lawyers in specialist areas when requested to do so. Acting as a client-facing subject matter expert on contract-related matters and possible disputes, you will also maintain the high profile of the legal team throughout the business and encourage early legal involvement in projects and decision making.

You will work in a vibrant environment with clever minds that work for a variety of large global clients. At DEPT®, we're eager to hire the most talented experts in the game; people who continuously strive to improve their craft, are eager to learn, who want to inspire others, and strive for a better world.

SKILLS AND PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE:

  • UK qualified lawyer with 4-6 year PQE gained in private practice or within an in-house environment.

  • Basic knowledge of GDPR and other relevant UK data protection laws and regulations.
  • A positive 'can do', collaborative mind set.
  • Ability to quickly digest information and apply knowledge in a practical and pragmatic way.
  • Solid, clear and concise (written & verbal) communication skills (including presentation skills) with the ability to distil complexity into simplicity essential.

  • Resilient and calm under pressure to manage competing needs in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy in a global multi-national business environment.
  • Proactive and open: DEPT® is for the pioneers, which means embracing new ideas, challenges and change with positivity and a hands-on approach.

HEALTH, WELLBEING & BENEFITS:

  • Possibilities to do what you do best and to develop your skills further with training, development and certifications
  • An excellent salary based on experience and equal pay policies
  • Flexible working: you have the choice to work from our office or remotely, and we have core working hours where you can choose your start and finish times to suit you

  • 25 days paid holiday with the opportunity to buy extra days
  • Refreshments provided in the office all week, as well as drinks at 4pm on a Friday.
  • We celebrate successes by rewarding teams when big projects go-live and honouring the year's top achievements at our annual awards ceremony
  • Biennial trip to the DEPT® Festival in the Netherlands: a chance to meet other people in DEPT®, see great talks from industry leaders, and have an all-expenses-paid weekend of fun!

At DEPT®, we take pride in creating an inclusive workplace where everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive. We actively seek to recruit, develop, nurture, and retain talented individuals from diverse backgrounds, with varying skills and perspectives.

Not sure you meet all qualifications? Apply, and let us decide! Research shows that women and members of underrepresented groups tend not to apply for jobs when they think they may not meet every requirement, when in fact they do. We believe in giving everyone a fair chance to shine.

We also encourage you to reach out to us and discuss any reasonable adjustments we can make to support you throughout the recruitment process and your time with us.
