Job description

A new and exciting vacancy opportunity has arisen at Cotswold House Oxford, for an Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor (OTTI). You will be working with the Occupational Therapist in delivering a high standard of care to our service users.

Cotswold House Oxfordis a specialist eating disorder service, offering 14 inpatients and 6 day treatment places. Our service provides a stepped model of care, tailored to individual needs. We offer multi-disciplinary pre-admission assessments to collaboratively plan aims and goals of admission.

We offer a range of psychological and evidence-based groups and therapy to assist a patient’s return to independent living, including work, training or study. Our group programme includes groups that are CBT-ED based, which run over a 20-week period. You will be able to train in CBT-E Skills and offer basic CBT-E to patients. There are opportunities for career progression and further training.

Staff are encouraged to contribute to quality improvement projects. These projects are highly recognised by the Trust. Staff are recognised for all the innovation and contributions they do the service developments and patient care through the Staff Recognition Awards which are held annually.

Some of the key duties include:

  • Facilitating dining room goals setting, creative art, well-being groups
  • Support patients with sandwich making and cooking
  • Support patients during meals out
  • 1:1 activities support
  • 1:1 DBT skills support

  • To provide support to the Occupational Therapy service to enable the management and delivery of the therapeutic group programme and individual interventions on the unit for patients with eating disorders.
  • To assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual patient care plans alongside the Occupational Therapist and the Multi-disciplinary Team.
  • To assess individual patients’ strengths and needs in terms of self-care, productivity, leisure, and provide relevant therapeutic interventions as appropriate.
  • To use practical and technical skills with patients as directed by members of the multi-disciplinary team, for example meal preparation, life skills, clothes shopping, self-esteem work, mirror retraining.
  • To plan and co-ordinate a programme of care under the supervision of members of the multi-disciplinary team and to facilitate specific groups such as creative groups and sandwich making sessions.
  • To identify patient’s strengths and needs in order to plan and implement suitable therapy programmes for groups and individual patients.
  • To assess patient’s need in relation to preparing meals and shopping for food.
  • To evaluate the effectiveness of therapy with patients, carers and the multi-disciplinary team in order to modify and adapt interventions.
  • To be flexible and responsive to the identified needs of patients, for example the provision of group activities on a Sunday
