Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor
Location: Birmingham
Salary: from £22,100 - £23,810 (dependent on experience) Hours: 37.5 hours per week

St Andrew’s Healthcare is a charity providing specialist mental healthcare services. We work in partnership with a number of NHS, voluntary, educational and research organisations to deliver a range of specialist inpatient and community mental healthcare services, education and research that helps to improve the lives of people with complex mental health needs.
St Andrew’s Birmingham is a 118 bedded adult mental healthcare facility comprises of eight units that cover medium and low security for both Men and Women. Located in Stirchley, a vibrant area in South Birmingham, easily accessible by road networks and public transport.
We are very proud that our Birmingham hospital is rated ‘Good’ overall by the Care Quality Commission and ‘Outstanding’ in responsiveness. We are also part of a wider healthcare provider collaborative, REACHOUT, working in association with two other NHS Trusts in the West Midlands.
We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor. You will work with an OT team to undertake assessments and treatment within a forensic psychiatric setting.
Under the support and guidance of a registered Occupational Therapist, you will use technical and creative skills to provide patient centred programmes of therapeutic activities, to enable an individual to achieve their goals. You will have the opportunity to undertake training to improve your knowledge and skills to enable you to develop in this OT TI role.
As an Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor you will have the opportunity to work with a highly motivated Occupational Therapy team. There will be opportunities to be involved in staff training and professional development as well as regular individual supervision from a Senior Occupational Therapist.
You should have:
- An understanding of the role of Occupational Therapy.
- Good team working skills, sound communication skills.
- The ability to work under pressure
- The ability to build a rapport with a challenging patient group
- Organisational skills, an ability to take initiative and complete delegated tasks
- Ability to lead therapeutic activity groups under supervision
- You will have a positive, non-judgmental attitude and work well within a team.
