The role of Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA’s) at Red Kite View: To assist and support the Occupational Therapy treatment program for young people under the supervision of our registered Occupational Therapists. The Occupational Therapy Assistants could work across the General Adolescent Unit (GAU) and Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The focus of the support to Occupational Therapy treatment programs is to facilitate group activities, managing resources for activities and supporting the OT team with 1:1 treatment plans. The role requires Multi Disciplinary Team working, to work collaboratively regarding treatment plans and formulation and to communicate clinical rationale. To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and contribute to overall provision of a high quality service.
- The main duties of the OTA’s at Red Kite View will include but are not limited to the following.
- Supporting the Occupational Therapy intervention plans.
- Developing and facilitating group activities.
- Working across the GAU and PICU, to meet service needs.
- Evaluating and ordering of resources for group and individual work.
- Building therapeutic relationships with young people.
- Supporting the creation of weekly timetables on the unit and dissemination of these.
- Encouraging young people to engage in day to day activities.
- Regular supervision with Occupational Therapist.

- To assist the Occupational Therapists to implement comprehensive Occupational Therapy treatment programs for Service Users.
- In liaison with the Occupational Therapists, to select activities appropriate to Service User needs and carry these out.
- To engage with a service user to develop or maintain skills for independent living.
- To observe a Service User’s skills/behaviour and be aware of other mental health needs, and to feedback relevant information to the multi-disciplinary team.
- To act as a facilitator/co-facilitator of therapeutic group activities.
- To participate in the multi-disciplinary approach to Service User care.
- To maintain Occupational Therapy based standards of practice particularly in respect of the codes of ethics and professional practice.
- To contribute to the education and training of Staff within the service and unit.
- To comply with the maintenance of an effective system for managing and minimising levels of critical risk.
- To demonstrate a commitment to involving service users and carer’s in seeking their views and comments about their care and treatment.
