An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Full-Time Band 4 Occupational Therapy Assistant (37.5hrs) to work within Dorset Forensic Service as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing input into a 12 bedded low secure inpatient unit. The successful applicant will join an already established Forensic Occupational Therapy Service, which aims to provide assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and aftercare to patients with a mental disorder and associated offending behaviour, whilst being committed to clinical excellence and the provision of high quality evidence based intervention.

We are seeking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated Occupational Therapy Assistant who has experience in working with people from a range of diverse social and ethnic backgrounds. Applicants must demonstrate a genuine desire to work in forensic mental health and commit to delivering the highest quality of patient centred care using national quality standards and evidence-based practice.

We require someone who is flexible and approachable. Effective communication skills, time management and organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to work well with all members of the multi-disciplinary team. The successful applicant will be required to drive to work related appointments and transport patients to support their recovery and rehabilitation.

To plan and facilitate inpatient occupational therapy led groups and 1:1 activities, tailored to the patient group within the framework laid down by the Occupational Therapists.

To implement and evaluate delegated occupational therapy interventions for service users in activities relating to their treatment programme.

To support patients transitioning from secure inpatient care into the community using both 1:1 and group work.

To assist occupational therapists with the delivery of care, and demonstrate to support staff regarding occupational therapy interventions.

To carry out administrative duties within the occupational therapy department including taking full responsibility for designated tasks.

To liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure effective delivery of occupational therapy.

To enhance their own clinical and organisational skills to meet the needs of patients and the organisation.

To order therapeutic related supplies and equipment.
