We are looking for an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) to join our supportive team with in our acute mental health inpatient unit based at Forston Clinic, Dorchester.

As the Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will be responsible for providing specialist Occupational Therapy intervention within our adult ward under the guidance of our multi – disciplinary Occupational Therapists. This is a great opportunity to learn and gain new skills in a well-established and experienced team.

You will have an understanding of both Mental Health and Occupational Therapy to promote and facilitate the OT programme to contribute to the evaluation of patient's progress. This will be delivered both on the ward and in the community through 1:1 intervention, group work, and enabling clients in accessing relevant local community resources which would support their discharge. Therefore, being a driver is essential for this role.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant role is a part- time 30 hour post Monday to Friday 08:30 – 16:30. We could be flexible with start times as long as the services needs are met.

The post holder will work within the West Dorset Acute Occupational Therapy Team

The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist Occupational Therapy intervention under the guidance of the Occupational Therapists

The post holder will be expected to work through the occupational therapy process to provide interventions via both group work and 1:1 sessions.

The post holder will have an understanding of the principles of recovery through the use of meaningful occupation

You will be required to undertake a Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression course. It is a condition of your employment that you successfully complete all aspects of this course; if this is not achieved you will not be able to commence working in the post.
