Cygnet Hospital Taunton The hospital provides an acute inpatient admissions service for men over the age of 18, spread across 3 wards with a step down ward as well as providing a specialist inpatient service for Males over 18 with a diagnosis of a learning disability. Sycamore 1, 2 and Swift Wards are our male acute service at Cygnet Hospital Taunton. The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for men who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.
As an Occupational Therapy Assistant the role involves planning and implementing activities as a therapeutic medium under the guidance of the Occupational Therapists who work full time and will be based on Sycamore 1 & 2 Wards. You will also be supported by the wider Occupational Therapy Team based at Taunton including the Head of Occupational Therapy. The post holder will be offered support and guidance to utilise standardised assessments and implement structured groups.
In this role you will work within an MDT (which consists of Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Nursing, Medical and Social Work) to support recovery and rehabilitation for service users at Cygnet Hospital Taunton.
The hospital is situated in a rural setting amongst Taunton farmland, within acres of peaceful fields. This quiet and tranquil environment offers great benefit to our service users who are able to walk in the expansive hospital grounds and take in the countryside scenery. Taunton town centre offers contrast to the quieter country life with market places, shopping malls and many other entertainment areas such as restaurants, theatres and cinemas.

Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway.
Occupational Therapy Assistant Preceptorship & Induction:
We offer an Occupational Therapy Assistant 12 month preceptorship programme to support and consolidate core Occupational Therapy Skills.
