Band 5 Occupational Therapist – Inpatient Services, Specialist Learning Disability Service, East Renfrewshire HSCP
The Specialist Learning Disability Service within NHS GG&C provides assessment/treatment inpatient services to people with a learning disability who experience mental ill-health and or associated challenging behaviour / complex needs. The service has an exciting opportunity for a full time Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join the inpatient team. This post will offer a key role within the inpatient service at a time of important service re-design in line with current national drivers including the Coming Home Implementation Report. Applicants should demonstrate relevant experience to the specialty of learning disability including mental health, complex needs and behaviours that may challenge. The post holder will, with supervision, manage a clinical caseload of clients with complex health and social care needs including mental health needs, physical disability, sensory processing difficulties, and behaviours that may challenge alongside delegated duties in line with the role/grade. Core competencies centre on functional skills assessment, assessment for & provision of specialist adaptations, equipment and environmental redesign, consideration of sensory processing needs, alongside the contribution to positive behavioral support plans through a wide range of occupation focused interventions both within the hospital and community setting. The post holder will work with the service users on an individual and group work basis to maintain or increase their level of function and participation in a range of activities of daily living in order to maximise their level of independence and identify support needs.
By engaging in the professional occupational therapy supervision process with a senior occupational therapist you will contribute to the delivery of an evidenced based occupational therapy service. You will be expected to participate in the clinical development framework within the service through professional training opportunities and work as part of a multidisciplinary team contributing to team tasks, team audit and quality improvement activities. This role will require the post holder to work across 3 inpatient units, based on separate sites, as clinical / service need indicates. Requirement to be qualified to degree level, registered with The Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and meet all the requirements for practicing as an occupational therapist.
