BAND 6 Occupational Therapist- Medicine Team

Permanent Position– 1 part time post, flexible working patterns considered

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our established team of therapists who provide a service to our medical wards based at Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General hospital.

You will be part of the wider multidisciplinary team on the acute medical wards assessing and treating. You will complete timely assessments of patients referred to the service, with an aim to facilitate discharge from the acute setting as efficiently and effectively as possible. You will ensure excellent communication with patients, their relatives and carers, work effectively within a large multidisciplinary team and liaise with our system partners. You will manage a caseload of patients with a variety of conditions and will therefore benefit from experience in treating patients from a range of clinical areas.

You will have support to develop both your clinical and leadership skills from our 2 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist and Clinical Team Leader.

You will join a supportive team of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, and will receive regular supervision and appraisal to promote personal development. You will be actively encouraged to be involved in service development, audit and research within the team. There will be the opportunity to support and supervise other staff, as well as provide practice placements for Occupational Therapy students. There is a structured in-service training programme in place within the team which you will be encouraged to be involved with.

We provide a seven day service and have a roster system to cover weekend working and bank holidays.

  • Occupational Therapy provides key therapeutic assessments and interventions to patients in order to promote independence and facilitate optimum function for individuals working with patients, families and carers and the multi-disciplinary to achieve agreed outcomes for patients.
  • To work with those who may have complex needs including physical, psychological and communication difficulties.
  • Be responsible for managing a complex clinical caseload from assessment to discharge/transfer of care within defined protocols, in order to facilitate a timely and safe discharge from hospital.
  • Plan, deliver and progress treatment interventions using clinical reasoning and decision making skills in order to work towards and achieve identified patient goals.
  • Set outcome related goals with the patient which are consistent with the standards of the department, in order to meet the needs of the patient.
  • To actively participate in the education and training of Occupational Therapy staff as appropriate including leading on specific mandatory training initiatives e.g. manual handling, infection control, child protection, health and safety and topics related to Acute Medicine.
