Introduction

We are looking for a highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join our established team at Moorlands Neurological Centre in Cheadle, Staffordshire.

You will play an active role within both the Occupational Therapy team and as an essential part of the hospitals TDT (Trans Disciplinary Team); undertaking assessments using the Model of Human Occupation (Mo Ho) framework, and in the development and implementation of a broad range of therapeutic interventions.

We have a clear care pathway for our service users, employing least restrictive practices, opportunities to develop new skills, optimise functioning, enhance feelings of confidence and competence and to maximise their quality of life; with the aim of progressing towards a discharge for which they are prepared and best equipped.

Your expertise will be a key resource for our TDT and service users, and you should be confident to engage within in multi-disciplinary meetings, CPA meetings, peer discussions and to facilitate both individual and group based Occupational Therapy sessions.

You will be responsible for the Occupational Therapy input for an identified caseload and have the support of a team of established Occupational Therapy Assistants to generate and facilitate a therapeutic programme responsive to the needs of our service users.

Our Occupational Therapist role involves:

  • Being responsible for the assessment of patients occupational functioning and the development, implementation and evaluation of the occupational therapy treatment and therapeutic programmes for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism.
  • As a member of the clinical team, contributing to the overall assessment, treatment and care.
  • Contributing significantly to the development of the Occupational Therapy service carrying out service development projects as directed by the Lead Occupational Therapist.
  • Undertaking delegated professional duties to ensure the effective and efficient running of the OT service, representing the Lead Occupational Therapist and OT department as required.
  • Acting as a visible, accessible presence to whom service users, colleagues, carers and family members can approach for assistance, support, advice and guidance.
  • Contributing to the development and delivery of appropriate training for Occupational Therapy staff and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

To be successful as a Occupational Therapist, you’ll need:

Essential

  • HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist
  • BSc/MSc in Occupational Therapy
  • Experience of Occupational Therapy with neurological conditions
  • Understanding & working knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Strong current knowledge of best practice within neurology/mental health
  • Previous experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge and practical experience of the Occupational Therapy process in a similar setting preferably adult inpatient services.
  • Experience, knowledge and skill in supervising OT assistants and students
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage a caseload and to work in a self-directed manner.
  • Ability to plan, facilitate and evaluate individual and group interventions with service users.
  • Ability to apply practical skills and areas of interest within interventions.
  • IT literate, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to initiate and implement service development to improve the effectiveness of occupational therapy services
  • Evidence of post graduate continuing professional development relevant to the post.
  • To be able to demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of treatment strategies for adults with neurological conditions
  • An understanding and appreciation of the role of Occupational Therapy within this environment, its challenges and expectations, is important.

Desirable

  • Good knowledge of national developments and priorities in the area of neurological conditions
  • Specialist training & experience in a relevant clinical field (i.e. sensory integration)
  • To have undertaken training in risk assessment and risk management planning
  • To have worked or experience in a similar setting
  • Experience, knowledge and skill in audit and/or research
  • Experience, knowledge and skill of Occupational Therapy models particularly the Model of Human Occupation
  • Experience, knowledge and skill in rehabilitation and recovery approaches i.e. interventions to support vocational and educational aspirations.
