British Transport Police (BTP) are transforming our Occupational Health Service and as part of this, we are recruiting for a permanent Occupational Health Medical Coordinator paying £24,391.58 plus £2835.11 London Allowance (applicable to London-based candidates only) per annum based at any one of our main BTP Hubs; Camden; London, Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff or Glasgow.

This role offers a blended approach of home and office-working. You will occasionally be required to travel to our other locations to support Occupational Health service delivery and to attend meetings; travel and accommodation will be provided by BTP, when required.

As Occupational Health Medical Coordinator, you will be required to:

  • Co-ordinate the delivery of clinics and appointments; making appointments, responding to queries and managing information on the Occupational Health software system.
  • Monitor the Occupational Health general email inboxes; responding to queries where appropriate and allocating remaining queries to the Occupational Health team for action.
  • Act as the first point of contact for callers, contractors and visitors, ensuring that they are dealt with promptly, efficiently and courteously. Liaise with internal staff and external contacts at all levels, resolving issues proactively. Triage calls to direct to relevant personnel or arrange appointments as necessary.
  • Allocate workplace assessment questionnaires received to the Occupational Health Advisors’ diaries and subsequent administration of these bookings.
  • As directed by the Manager, provide support in preparation of files and reports to enable Managers and others to communicate with internal and external contacts and to aid their understanding of current issues on a variety of sensitive and confidential matters.

The successful Occupational Health Medical Coordinator will be required to evidence the following:

  • Minimum GCSE grade C in English Language and Mathematics or equivalent qualifications or experience.
  • Previous administrative or secretarial experience with a high level of organisational ability and attention to
  • Experience of delivering a high level of customer service and dealing with a range of queries and concerns in a professional manner.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised. The earliest this will be is October 2023.
