Job; Early Years Practitioner Level 3
Reports to; Tip Top Day Nursery Managers – Lisa Hickman and Kate Tipper and setting Manager- Charlotte Jackson
Length of probation period; Six months
Location: Tip Top Day Nursery, Bilston- NEW !
Purpose of the job; To provide high quality care for all of the children in our setting and to ensure that they make progress in their learning and development ready to start school. Post holders have a responsibility to safeguard all children and promote the children’s wellbeing.
At Tip Top Day Nursery we provide quality, affordable childcare to the community. We expect all staff that we recruit to be professional at all times, caring, highly motivated and enthusiastic about their role when working in partnership alongside our team and with the children and families that we provide childcare for.
Main Responsibilities:
To work together with the nursery managers and nursery practitioners to sustain a high standard of education and care for the children who attend our setting.
To adhere and understand how to put into practice our policies, procedures and risk assessments and ensure that their individual practice is in accordance with these.
To follow procedures in a timely manner when referring a safeguarding concern or disclosure in line with Tip Top Day Nursery’s procedures, policies and local authority guidelines.
To do observations, tracking of the children’s development, planning, assessment and preparation/ maintenance of learning journeys and records of the children. Staff should also have a good knowledge of their children and families in their key group / base room. All staff should complete appropriate paper work ensuring that it is up to date.
To prepare focused activities and continuous provision throughout our learning environment, ensuring that it is in a safe and secure setting.
To work together in partnership with families, other staff, other professionals and agencies that the child/ nursery work with.
To adhere to our employee handbook terms.
To participate in regular appraisals, supervisions, peer on peer observations and complete a successful induction period.
To attend parent’s evenings, staff training, staff meetings and other nursery events unless sincere reason is given for not being able to.
To report and record any accidents and incidents, following Tip Top Day Nursery’s procedures and guidance, taking action as necessary.
To take appropriate action with regard to complaints and take part in investigations if required.
To supervise children at meal and snack times, ensuring that all dietary requirements are followed and a healthy environment is promoted by adhering to procedures and guidelines set by Tip Top Day Nursery. Sometimes staff may be required to prepare meals and snacks, once food hygiene training has been received.
To dress appropriately, adhering to Tip Top Day Nursery’s dress code and maintain appearance and behaviour with the high standards of our nursery.
To exhibit a flexible and whole-hearted, enthusiastic attitude.
To be willing to participate in further training to aid continuous professional development, reflect on own practice and look at ways to continuously develop. To keep up-to-date with relevant practices and guidelines. To participate in regular Safeguarding and Child Protection training (yearly updates), contribute to discussions regarding safeguarding procedures at staff meetings and understand our safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
Nursery staff will be required to maintain a high level of cleanliness through undertaking opening up and closing down procedures, which may include cleaning, washing and tidying to ensure the general upkeep of the nursery rooms and resources. Staff will be responsible for cleaning toys regularly to promote hygiene and lower the risk of germs spreading. Staff will also need to follow procedures to make sure that bathrooms remain clean after use. This will include nappy changing areas and bathrooms being thoroughly cleaned after use and kept tidy.
It is the duty of all employees to take reasonable care of themselves and others whilst at work. We ask that staff co-operate with their co-workers and management to ensure the nursery is a safe working environment and that all staff are vigilant to potential hazards.

Knowledge and experience
Previous experience of working within an Early Years setting is desired
Level 3 qualification or above in Early Years / Childcare
Knowledge of the EYFS development matters and statutory framework is required.
