A unique opportunity has arisen for a Nursery Nurse to join the maternity service at The Portland Hospital.
Location: The Portland Hospital for Women & Children, Great Portland Street
Hours: Full time 37.5hrs pw (Long days, Nights & Weekends)

The role will involve you working as part of a team to provide the highest standard of care to patients and their families.
You will be responsible for the provision of high quality newborn care within the maternity setting, working alongside the midwifery team to provide newborn care to all babies in the postnatal ward and provide support and guidance to new parents on the care of their newborn.
Principal duties:
Demonstrate good clinical practice under the supervision of a midwife, at all times in the provision newborn care.
Demonstrate competency by using theoretical knowledge to underpin newborn care delivered.
Assist in the assessment of the care needs of babies requiring transitional care.
Assist qualified midwives in dealing with emergency situations as directed by them.
Participate in extended skills such as passing nasogastric tubes, serum bilirubin screening, blood spot screening, blood glucose analysis, serum bilirubin analysis and newborn hearing screening.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date newborn records.
Report relevant observations of baby’s condition to the midwife in-charge.
Prepare baby feeds as required.
Ensure newborn ‘Hugs and Kisses’ tagging is used in all new-borns ·
To accompany babies to other areas within the hospital when required.
Respect cultural diversity of colleagues and the patient group and respond appropriately and respectfully to individual needs and beliefs at all times.
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
NNEB, Btec Diploma in Nursery Nursing or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and
Basic Adult and Newborn Life Support
Understanding of Safeguarding issues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Competent with computers and able to use clinical systems
Ability to work within a team and independently
To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.
To provide evidence based care and develop skills in the speciality
