Job description
The Neonatal Unit at The Tunbridge Wells Hospital is a Level 2 unit, currently providing family centred care for 3 Intensive Care, 4 High Dependency and 5 Special Care cots, caring for babies from 27 weeks gestation.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated member of staff to join our friendly, dedicated team working in the special care nursery in the new Tunbridge Wells Hospital where we are proud to be Platinum Bliss accredited and BFI stage 2.
This is an excellent opportunity to work in a purpose built Neonatal Unit, specialising in providing an environment promoting quality family centred care.
Experience would be an advantage although we offer further opportunity for training and development, and actively support any continuing professional development you may wish to undertake

- With appropriate supervision admit babies to the ward, completing the appropriate paperwork.
- The bathing, feeding and general care of babies, including stimulation and play as appropriate.
- To be able to perform basic observations including TPR, blood pressure and blood sugar monitoring.
- With appropriate training and supervision, be proficient in the passing of feeding tubes and in the administration of naso-gastric and oro-gastric feeds.
- Communicating effectively with relatives, carers and colleagues ensuring confidentiality of all patient information. Communication will take place on a daily
- To support parents in their chosen method of feeding.
- To demonstrate parentcraft and promote health education in conjunction with trained staff.
- To assist with the orientation of new nursery nurses and students
- To be proactive in the health education of families under the direction of the nurse in charge.
The Trust provides a full range of general hospital services and some areas of specialist complex care to around 500,000 people living in the south part of West Kent and the north part of East Sussex.
The Trust’s core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs. We work from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients – the first of its kind in the country.
