Job Description
Responsible to: Nursery Manager
Hours of Work: 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday,
Work Location: 32 Handsworth Avenue, London, E4 9PJ
Job Purpose
To work in partnership with the Nursery Manager, children and families to provide a consistently high quality Early Years curriculum at YMCASPG’s Nursery.
To value each child as an individual, to encourage their all-round development and positive self-image.

Duties and Responsibilities
Activity Provision
- Provide a safe and stimulating environment for children under 5 through a range of appropriate activities, ensuring that they are age and stage appropriate and link to the EYFS 2021.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with their key children and the wider group.
- Take an active role in planning and evaluating activities, focusing on the prime areas/specific areas/Characteristics of Effective Learning as stipulated in the EYFS 2021.
- Ensure that behaviour management strategies are consistent with those of the organisation and Early Years Foundation Stage 2021.
- Relate to, and communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding the setting and care of their child.
- Help promote effective teamwork in conjunction with other staff and volunteers.
- To complete registers each session.
Health and Safety
- Be always aware of health and safety procedures.
- Complete daily H and S checklists and bring to the attention of the Room Leader any defective equipment.
- Ensure each child is always within sight and hearing.
General All Staff
- Able to proficiently use IT systems, including working with databases, Microsoft office, email, internet
- Attend all relevant training and development programmes. This is to include food handling, paediatric first aid and child protection
- Attend all relevant cross-departmental and Corporate Office meetings as and when required.
- Adhere to the Children and Family Work Department’s Policies and Procedures.
- Undertake all duties about the Association’s Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy and other policies and procedures adopted by the Association.
- Undertake any other duties as requested by line manager.

- Knowledge of health, safety, Safeguarding and welfare issues concerning children

Terms and Conditions of Employment
Salary
£9.50p/h
Hours of Work
45 hours per week Monday to Friday,
Annual Leave
Commencing at 25 days per year.
Conditions of Appointment
Subject to satisfactory references, Disclosure Barring Service check, medical clearance and verification of Right to Work in the United Kingdom. Also required to wear staff badge, and where appropriate, supplied uniform.
Probation Period
6-months
Continuity of Service
For those already employed within the YMCA Federation, continuity of service will be recognised for pension and annual leave entitlement, but not statutory rights.
Notice Period
One week during the probationary period and then a minimum of one calendar month.
Pension
Subject to certain criteria set by Government, you will be auto enrolled into our chosen workplace pension scheme. The default position on Auto-Enrolment will be for your contributions to be made on a Salary Exchange basis, but you will have the option to opt-out of this arrangement. In respect of these Salary Exchange arrangements, you agree that your gross pay will be reduced by an amount equal to your Salary Exchange contributions.
