Job description
The post holder will lead on the planning, development and coordination to achieve an integrated Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy team within critical care across sites. They will provide the highest standard and most cost effective patient care supporting the Trust and CMG’s in achieving their objectives, working in conjunction with the Therapy Speciality Lead and be accountable for the delivery of high quality therapy care within Critical Care.
They will have substantial post registration experience working in occupational therapy at a clinical specialist level, have significant clinical knowledge of Critical Care alongside experience of clinical leadership and will be considered an advanced occupational therapist in this specialist field. They will manage a highly specialist clinical case load and provide advanced advice. They will work to lead and transform occupational therapy services in Critical Care including service development, changes to clinical practice and developing an audit and research culture.
They will have advanced knowledge and skills within neurological rehabilitation encompassing functional and cognitive rehabilitation. They will manage a highly specialist clinical caseload within Critical Care including patients on ECMO and outreach to ward based patients in partnership with the ward based occupational therapy teams.

The successful candidate will lead the implementation of service improvements and integration of services within critical care in conjunction with the Therapy Speciality Lead and Therapy Head of Service and the other AHP advanced practitioners.
Set up a cross site OT service at both Glenfield And Leicester Royal Infirmary being involved in early rehabilitation through the whole rehab pathway including follow up services.
You will be involved in teaching and liaising with other health care professionals, band 5 development, student education and in assisting with clinical audit and service development.
This post is suitable for either an experienced band 7 Critical Care OT who can demonstrate the enthusiasm and ability to work at an Advanced Practice level.

- Have an integral role and influence in the reconfiguration of critical care across UHL in relation to occupational therapy provision
- They will coordinate a specialist team providing a comprehensive occupational therapy service to patients referred into the service
- Ensure that the critical care therapy team provide a service that is responsive to patient and referrers needs in the line with key stakeholder’s priorities
- Lead operational day to day management for the critical care therapy team
- Act as an advanced, autonomous practitioner to provide specialist therapy assessments, diagnose and develop individualised treatment programmes based on patients’ needs, using advanced clinical reasoning skills and to develop own area of clinical practice within a specialty area
- Be responsible for delivering high quality specialist therapy to patients within critical care
- In addition to managing their own patient caseload they will take a leading role in the occupational therapy management of patients across the specialty, who have complex needs and multi-pathologies
- Ensure efficient, effective and safe service delivery within a fast and pressurised environment
- Lead and promote education, clinical audit, service evaluation and research within critical care adhering to Trust and Research Policy
- Act as a clinical lead for occupational therapy within critical care ensuring continued development and maintenance of clinical skills in line with current evidence base
- Work within the multi-professional team at an advanced level to co-ordinate cognitive and functional rehabilitation plans
- Work within the multi-professional team to execute complex rehabilitation, including patients receiving ECMO support
- Work in collaboration with consultant intensivists to provide advanced knowledge from an advanced clinical specialist perspective
- Provide advanced clinical support to the MDT and patients through critical care and ECMO follow up clinics
- Take a leading role in the development and ongoing delivery of critical care diaries
- Provide clinical supervision to the critical care clinical specialist occupational therapist
- Demonstrate autonomy to make complex decisions
- Be responsible for specialist therapy equipment for Critical Care, including training of staff using this equipment
