Jacobs is currently recruiting for a Radiation Consultant to join our Advanced Reactors business.
As the demand for our expertise continues to grow, an opportunity has arisen to work in the area of radiation physics, based in our Birchwood office to support our technical lead in a number of UK and international nuclear projects.
The role will include, but not be limited to radiation transport and inventory calculations, shielding design, criticality safety, reactor physics and radiation protection.
You will be a key part of our team, supporting a wide range of consultancy projects, small and large, for a variety of customers across the nuclear industry, including new build projects, SMR and AMRs, existing civil and defence plant, fusion reactor design and decommissioning.
Mentoring and training will be provided to support the development of your technical and professional skills throughout your career at Jacobs.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Developing advanced computer-based models, including radiation models
- Performing complex calculations, including for shielding and criticality and also other applications
- Assessment of handling, movement and transportation of radioactive materials
- Assessment of complex problems and developing associated solutions
- Production of high-quality, complex, technical documents
We are looking for applicants with some of the following skills or experience:
- Degree in any numerate scientific or engineering discipline
- A broad range of experience covering radiation physics and radiation transport modelling, including some experience of shielding and/or criticality applications
- The ability to write well-structured reports that present clear argument with a sound basis for recommendations
- Ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues
- Higher degree in relevant discipline (Masters / PhD)
- Experience with radiation physics and radiation transport modelling
- Experience in programming, digital design/analysis and simulation
