The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has an opening for a School of Performing Arts Instructor at the North Texas Youth Education Town, located at the Arlington, TX Corps.
Job Summary:
Teaches professional-level group lessons to youth in appropriate performing arts discipline (musical instruments, vocals, etc.); creates lesson plans, monitors student progress, prepares students for performances; interacts with parents and other teachers; follows prescribed curriculum.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of pedagogy in appropriate performing arts discipline.
Knowledge of teaching techniques and learning theories.
Ability to adapt curriculum materials for various age groups.
Professional level performing arts skills.
Ability to communicate effectively and clearly as an educator.
Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D. required, with a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Music Arts, Music Education, or related field preferred, and two years of experience teaching private or group lessons in appropriate performing arts discipline, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses/Certifications:
CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within established timeframe)
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.
Ability to demonstrate performing arts techniques.
Ability to establish goals and objectives and monitor their effective implementation.
Ability to form positive relationships with youth.
Ability to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.
Duties are usually performed seated but may require frequent periods of standing and walking.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Work is usually performed in a normal classroom environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
