About the opportunity:
We are currently looking for a Multi Utility Operative Apprentices and Trainee Cable Jointers to join our Operations North department (preferable locations:Preston, Manchester, Stoke on Trent, Leeds/Wakefield).
Due to continued growth, we are seeking to build on our existing craft delivery teams by investing in new talent through our craft apprenticeships.
Our multi utility operative apprenticeship is a structured training programme that includes a mixture of training at our training providers training school and on the job learning to gain first-hand experience.
The apprenticeship is a structured training programme with the end goal of being fully qualified to work on multi-Utility projects installing water, gas and electric mains and services on new housing developments and Industrial and Commercial sites. All installations must comply to NJUG (National Utilities Joint Guidelines), completed on time with total emphasis on Safety and Quality.
You will be working with and training under an established Multi Utility team that usually consists of a fully qualified mains layer and a fully qualified service layer or assistant.

Main Accountabilities
- Learn and understand relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Work within authorised safety and technical competencies.
- Learn how the teams complete all work safely, to specification and on time.
- Ensure a safe working environment for all works considering all potential associated risks and placing control measure where required.
- Follow all given Company Procedures, Guidelines and Safe Working Practices.
- Monitor works and maintain safe working environment.
- Prepare for linear excavation works by the correct identification of existing plant and use of trail holes to confirm route.
- Construct all utilities to NJUG (National Joint Utilities Group) requirements.
- Build, test, and commission all utility assets as required within your authorised competencies.
- Record and complete all asset data through your tablet device.
- Protect installed utility assets by installation of sand base and sand cover as required.
- Contribute to an efficient and effective work environment during gas, water, and electric network operations.
- Ensure Health, safety & environment in the workplace during gas, water, and electric network operations.
- Become qualified to safely operate and maintain all plant, powered tools, and equipment and always ensure security.
- Understand plant and tools and ensure security of all equipment.
- Prepare resources & segregate the area for highway works during gas, water, and electric network operations.

Experience / Knowledge:
The ability to follow written and spoken instructions

Organised, methodical approach to work with excellent time management skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
IT adaptable and willing to learn internal apps. required to complete the electronic documentation via team tablet.
