Role Overview
Advance Welding is expanding its operations and seeking a dedicated individual to join our Production and Test team as a Workshop Operative. As a Workshop Operative, you will be responsible for assembling and testing a range of products, including our AC welders and battery-powered welders. Additionally, you may be involved in the assembly of spare parts and mechanical tooling.
You will work closely with the Workshop Supervisor, following digital build instructions and using standard tools and equipment. No special electronics knowledge is required; we value a willingness to learn and observe.
As part of the workshop team, you will collaborate with our quality team to ensure the consistent high standards our customers expect. Advance Welding encourages employee feedback, and you may be required to assist our Research and Development team and the quality team when needed.
Advance Welding are a forward-thinking company and value our employee’s feedback. As a part of your day-to-day duties, you may be required to assist our Research and Development team by helping them test and assemble new products and features. You are also required to assist our quality team as and when required.

Job type: Full Time, Permanent
Pay: Starting at £10.50 per hour (Rate review on successful completion of initial probationary and training period)
Hours: 39 Hours per week, with overtime as required
You will be working 39 Hours over a 4-day week with option of overtime on Friday's.
Monday to Thursday - 6.00am – 4.15pm (We operate a flexible shift pattern up until 5.45pm)
Optional Overtime on Friday – 7.30am – 3.00pm (Overtime Rate: Time & Half)
Location: Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, BD19 5DZ
Based: Working within the workshop.
Working Environment
The workshop environment will involve a variety of assembly and testing techniques. Tasks may include close soldering work, sub-assembly manufacture, rolling and cutting cables, final assembly, and moving equipment. Some machines may weigh up to 20kg, and occasionally two people may be required to lift heavier machines.
Advance Welding is a growing company, and opportunities for progression may arise in the future based on knowledge and understanding of the business. We provide comprehensive training internally through coaching and mentoring. Additional training such as First Aid, Mental Health, Fire Marshal, or Forklift may be required. Most training is conducted on-site, but some may be off-site at our group headquarters in Manchester, with all travel expenses reimbursed.

Duties
- Adhere to our health and safety guidelines, maintaining a safe working standard.
- Maintain good housekeeping and ensure a clean working environment.
- Follow digital build instructions on every task to ensure the work is completed to our high-quality standards and raising any queries with our quality team.
- Inspect and use sub-assemblies built by team members, ensuring they meet our quality standards before incorporating them into final assembly.
- Utilise various tools such as soldering irons, crimping machines, test equipment, compressed airlines, and pillar drills, all designed for specific tasks.
- Perform a range of tasks, including preparing and cutting cables, crimping wires, soldering, making sub-assemblies, assembling and cleaning cases/metal work, and final assembly before handing off to the testing team.
Qualifications/Attributes/Experience
Mandatory:
- Display an overall positive attitude – towards your colleagues, visitors and the business
- Work well as part of a team, assisting others and seeking help when needed.
- Attention to detail, following build instructions and identifying discrepancies.
- Problem-solving skills, attempting to resolve everyday tasks independently before seeking assistance.
- Basic computer skills, including using our works orders system and build instructions.
- Soldering experience is welcomed, and training will be provided.
Desirable:
- Previous IPCJ standard qualifications (The Standard for Soldering Assemblies)
- Previous Mechanical, Electronic, Electrical, or Panel Wiring experience.
Please note: This job requires reliable commuting or planning to relocate to Cleckheaton before starting work.
