Job introduction

Brighton and Hove City Council are recruiting one full time Night Hostel Worker to work at Glenwood Hostel.

Glenwood Lodge Hostel, including Off Street Offer (OSO) is a 48 bed Hostel for Single homeless men in central Brighton. We provide high support accommodation to men with high, complex needs and an Off Street Offer accommodation to rough sleepers.

The service supports clients with support issues such as substance misuse, physical and mental health issues, offending and move on and reconnection work. The waking Night Hostel Worker will be responsible at night for the safety and security of the hostel and its residents. You will ensure that residents are supported in the night, ensure the building is secure and reasonable noise levels are maintained.

About the role

Shifts are four nights on, four nights off. 9.30pm - 8.30am. Salary enhancements are payable for night and weekend work.

  • The starting basic hourly rate for Scale 4a is £12.02
  • Hours worked between midnight Friday and midnight Sunday are paid at £18.03 per hour (weekend working time and a half)
  • Hours worked between 8pm and 6am (other than at the weekend) will be paid at £16.02 per hour (time and a third)

You will:

  • Take responsibility at night for the safety and security of Glenwood Lodge and its residents, ensuring that safety procedures an statutory obligations are adhered to.
  • Be responsible for booking new people in at night occasionally during the night.
  • Be supporting residents, managing challenging behaviour and liaising with key-workers, using the BThink database to record your interactions/incidents etc.

An awareness of the issues surrounding single homelessness would be an advantage.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
