Job description

Are you going to be qualifying as a social worker in the upcoming months?

If so, we want to hear from you so we can share what we can offer you…..

  • An opportunity to put your training into practice in a safe and managed environment by starting with us as a Child Support Officer, without case holding responsibility pending your SW England registration
  • Building connections and relationships with managers and the families we work with
  • Co-working with experienced and dedicated professionals and building networks and relationships with other social workers
  • Regular support and sponsorship of our employees to access accredited development modules; developing practice and contributing to CPD
  • Protected time to allow you to complete mandatory training

As a Child Support Officer, you will help individuals and their families when they are going through difficult times. You could support children of all ages and their families, many of whom may have already experienced significant trauma.

On receiving your Social Work qualification and gaining Social Work England registration, you will move into a qualified Social Work position within Blackburn with Darwen and be supported to begin your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE).

We work closely with universities and teaching partnerships and you can gain peer support from other newly qualified Social Workers (ASYE)

We pride ourselves in a fantastic ASYE year offer which includes:

  • A dedicated mentor from the Practice Development Team, with weekly mentoring sessions for the first 3 months, fortnightly in months 3-6 and monthly for the last 6 months of your ASYE
  • ASYE drop in support sessions weekly
  • Monthly protected time for ASYE peer support sessions, including peer reflection, CPD modules and time to work on your ASYE portfolio
  • Protected case loads of 15

  • Full access to extensive internal learning and development opportunities
  • Support from our Practice Development Team with clear progression route from being a student through to senior leadership

Working at Blackburn with Darwen borough Council, you can make a difference to the lives of our residents and communities that we are proud to serve.

Our aim is to ‘Listen, Learn, Act’ as our employees are at the heart of our organisation. At recent briefings, employees fed back to us that they felt listened to around ideas, culture, transformation and new ways of working. From this feedback we have reshaped how our teams deliver services and embraced a systemic approach to working with families and children.

From this we have worked closely with our Employee Voice groups who have helped develop our new values of TRACK

By living and breathing these values, our employees will be working in an environment with a positive workplace culture and where all feel Proud to be BwD.
