Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for newly qualified midwives and final placement student midwives.

We currently have vacancies on our well evaluated Preceptorship Programme which has been awarded theCapital Midwife Preceptorship Quality Mark. It is a rotational twelve month programme which includes four three-month rotations around the clinical areas in the department. There is additional support from the Practice Development Midwives and dedicated study days to help you to consolidate all that you have learnt during your training and gain confidence in your abilities. We want your first year to be a positive experience to give you the best possible introduction to the wonderful profession that you have chosen.

Upon successful completion of your preceptorship programme you will be able to plan, with the Practice Development team, where your next move will be to.

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic midwives to work in our modern, well-equipped maternity department. The post is rotational and will include placements on our labour ward, midwife-led birth centre, postnatal ward and in community, providing a high-standard of midwifery care to the mothers and babies who use our service. You will be part of a team who will be there to support you and help you develop into confident, autonomous practitioners.

Are you that person?

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing safe, effective and compassionate care to the families that we serve. This will include providing antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care and offering support with infant feeding. You will be given training and teaching to enable you to provide excellent evidence-based care and to know how and when to access support and advice from the teams around you.

We are lucky to be able to work and provide care in our beautiful, purpose built maternity unit. We currently look after 4700 births per year and book over 5000 women for antenatal care.

Our service was rated ‘Good’ by CQC and our improvements over the last 18 months have seen us receiving praise from NHS Improvement. A CCG Insight visit noted improvements in morale and culture, with staff reporting good support and a culture of learning rather than blame. We are 100% compliant with Ockenden safety actions and have safety and excellent patient experience at the heart of the service that we deliver.

Our students rate us highly - receiving Practice Excellence Award 2020 (Poppy Team) from City University and “Outstanding Placement of the Year” (Tulip Team) this year. Our Bereavement Service received theRCM award for Bereavement carein 2018 and our Perinatal mental health team were awarded theNMC Excellence in Mental Health Award in 2021. In 2021 we received the Capital Midwife Preceptorship Mark. Our maternity service now receives 5 star reviews on NHS choices!

Our Trust has staff accommodation in North London and is situated within easy reach of London rail terminals and central London. We are in Zone 4, making travel to work less expensive, as well as offering on-site parking.
