As a Network Design Specialist in the Internet team, you will be part of the team responsible for how our Internet networks are designed, tested and delivered into service, and help design services that connect BT, EE and Plusnet and our big customers to the Internet and our peer-providers. In addition, you will also help develop innovative new solutions, automate network change and improve in-life processes, such as capacity management, that we use to run the internet.
What you’ll be doing
- Working autonomously and typically without supervision of more senior designers (although will consult with them) and providing technical guidance to more junior software engineers.
- Owning, delivering network designs for the Internet platforms capabilities and solutions
- Deciding on design scope, analysis and high level designs, as well as estimating the time and type of resource needed to support the deliverables with cost impact and duration
- Deciding on network component choices, technology and/or vendor selection
- Owning design improvements for resolving customer experience impacting network design issues
- Working directly with wider platform managers, designers, delivery and operations managers on platform transformation
- Capture business requirements by working with key business stakeholders and ensure that these requirements are translated into high quality technical solutions that are delivered to agreed dates
- Promptly resolve any issues that arise during design and provide a technical steer as required
- Ensure that designs adhere to architectural principles and policies
- Provide advice to ensure rapid resolution of operational live issues.
- Drive innovation and transformation within the design space
What you'll bring
Essential:
- Experience of IP, Routing, template driven design.
- Experience with at least one network operating system: IOS-XE, Junos, IOS-XR, etc.
- Experience in Network Desigining.
- Experience of Agile and Waterfall development methods using JIRA, Kanban, others.
- Stakeholders Management.
Nice to Have:
- Experience in cloud environments, AWS, GCP.
- Experience of Orchestration and Automation, and Telemetry streaming.
- Software Engineering background.
- Understanding of how to secure software applications and ways of monitoring their evolving security requirements
- Experience in dealing with Vendors sucha as Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, AWS.
