You will be joining a growing team of 2nd and 3rd line engineers in maintaining services across Trust sites within the Digital Services department. The Trust has an ambitious strategy to use Information and Communications Technologies to radically change the way it delivers its services to patients. This includes the need to enable clinicians to use electronic patient records all the time when they see, diagnose, review, treat and communicate with or about patients regardless of where they are working from. A key element therefore in supporting this strategy is connectivity of ICT networks within the region across several NHS organisations and local authorities.
So, it is essential that the Trust's infrastructure meets these objectives in a safe and secure way in the light of increased cyber security threats. The Trusts current data network covers over 100 sites located mainly in Nottinghamshire with sites in South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, and Leicestershire. The Trust currently operates various vendor network, telephony and security solutions including Cisco, Fortinet, Infoblox and Philips. Proven vendor support experience will be an advantage and a good working knowledge of modern operating systems is beneficial.
As any technology advances, you will need to have a keen interest in developing these systems to support the Trusts IT estate. The Network Engineer role will require you to: Carry out 2nd line BAU tasks including installation, configuration and fault diagnosis of network and telephony equipment. Assist the Network Manager with key development issues and projects. Provide the network monitoring and administration functions across the Trust to maximise system up-time.
Ensure that helpdesk and technical staff are kept informed of real time technical issues and changes as they arise. Assist and support junior technical staff in a manner that encourages and motivates them to deliver a high-quality service to the organisations that the HIS supports. Implement the highest standards of security and resilience for all corporate and clinical systems. Assist the Network Manager in managing disaster recovery operations in the event of a breakdown or failure.
Help maintain a life history Inventory of all the Trusts Information Technology hardware and software. Oversee management, allocation and documentation of telephone numbers and IP addresses. Assist in the maintenance of all documentation of network connections and diagrams of network topology ensuring that they are available at all times. Carry out diagnostic checks on network hardware and software identifying faults and performing recovery procedures in the event of component failure.
Test and commission new network equipment before it is added to the network to ensure its compatibility. Be able to take part in out of hours support arrangements for voice & data communications. The role of Network Engineer is to provide support, management and development of network systems and will require skills including: Experience of working on 2nd line fault resolution for network related incidents. Experience of working with data communication technologies.
Experience of working with voice communication technologies. Experience in other I.T disciplines including server and desktop technologies. Experience of working in a change control environment such as ITIL. Good knowledge of network topologies including VLANs, Routing protocols, TCP/IP.
The ability to work with 3rd Party suppliers and organisations. To work without supervision for protracted periods and to self-prioritise and organise own work schedules. The ability to analyse, investigate and resolve complex IM&T queries. Good written communication skills.
Be customer focused and committed to accomplishing challenging objectives. The ability to maintain technical documentation. Educated to HND level or at least 3 years relevant work experience at a similar level.
