Network Engineer

The Role

With Group IT-based in London and Manchester, we now need an Networking Engineer to support the transformation and the future growth of the business within the Tech function. The role will understand the network architecture across the Group including Azure networks, and will oversee and manage the changes and support provided by third party providers. The role will be looking to modernise legacy physical and virtual networking including in branch offices, working with third party vendors to provide connectivity and networking to support the digital innovation initiatives across the group.

The role is based in the new Tech and Data hub in Manchester with occasional travel to the London office

Responsibilities will include:

  • Work closely with the operations team, design team and third-party support and vendors to ensure that we maintain high service levels and uptime for all networking resources.
  • Design and prototype network solutions, create solution architecture document covering deep technical aspects of the implementation
  • Investigate and diagnose network-related incidents reported by customers, and liaise with transit providers/cross-connect peers if necessary.
  • Analyse and upgrade network resources where required. This includes router/switch upgrades, uplink upgrades, provisioning new point of presence locations.
  • Pro-actively identify, always diagnose and resolve information and security issues while adhering to group policies and processes
  • Follow change control procedures and submit/mange changes at the weekly Change Advisory Board (CAB).

Skills and experience:

  • Azure firewalls, NSG, Azure networking (AZ-700)
  • Azure Virtual WAN, ExpressRoute, NVAs, VPN Gateways, DNS, Private Endpoints, WAFs
  • DHCP, BGP, network segmentation, IDPS, threat protection, SNAT/DNAT, TLS inspection
  • Palo Alto, including Prisma Access, Global Protect, Cortex XDR
  • Juniper SDWan
  • HPE Aruba switching, Aruba Central, Aruba Mobility Master, APs, Mobility Controllers or equivalent network vendor knowledge.
  • Operator Connect PSTN Teams voice solution
  • Advanced PowerShell scripting
  • Engineer proficient with Linux / Command Line, Log File Analysis, API / CLI and Distributed Systems / High Availability Strong focus on Security
  • Excellent documentation skills
