Job Description
AECOM’s Sustainability team are industry leaders in the field of low carbon design and sustainability in the built environment. Our projects range from working with national and local Government to support policy makers, to developing energy and sustainability strategies for the design and planning of new developments or to assisting clients to decarbonise their existing buildings and estates.
We are seeking a self-motivated Net Zero Consultant , with a technical background in the sustainability or energy sectors, to join our established Net Zero Existing Estates team. You will play a key role in delivering operational energy and carbon reduction consultancy services for a number of major public and private sector clients across a range of sectors, covering commercial real estate, education, Government estate, NHS Trusts, Local Authorities, Network Rail and many others.
Your role will be focused on supporting clients to develop and deliver net zero roadmaps for their existing buildings and estates, rather than new buildings. You will be supported by a team of other senior and principal Net Zero consultants, one of whom you would report into.
We expect you to work closely with our experts in our 100+ strong sustainability team as well as wider AECOM colleagues and external partners to deliver this work.
The job responsibilities will include:
+ Contributing towards capital investment planning for low carbon technologies deployment across building portfolios to achieve significant carbon reduction
+ You will be responsible for:
+ Analysing metered energy data, building energy management system (BeMS) logs, operational information, and other relevant supporting information to identify opportunities for energy reduction and building performance optimisation
+ Conducting energy surveys and audits of a range of different building types, and preparing life cycle cost analysis for energy saving opportunities
+ Developing robust spreadsheet-based energy and carbon scenario models to support the development of energy and carbon reduction strategies for clients with large portfolios of buildings
+ Preparing and delivering reports, briefings papers and presentations setting out the findings and outputs of studies and consultancy assignments
+ You will support colleagues on:
+ Options appraisals and specification of energy efficient and low carbon retrofit projects, working with building services design teams
+ Development and implementation of Net Zero strategies and Roadmaps for decarbonisation of client assets
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
+ A working knowledge of the measures and systems for reducing carbon emissions within the built environment, including energy demand reduction, renewable energy generation, and low carbon energy supply and demand management options
+ Experience in calculating or compiling energy and CO2 emissions data at building or city scales
+ An ability to communicate effectively, be client-facing and write concise and clear reports
+ Experience of building related energy auditing, and preparing energy audit reports
+ An understanding of the UK policy and regulatory framework relating to energy use and sustainability of buildings
Desirable Skills and Knowledge
+ Experience of team working in a consultancy environment, to deadlines and a fixed budget
+ Technical understanding of building services and low carbon / renewable energy systems
+ Familiarity with Building Management Systems and software packages
+ ESOS lead assessor certification
+ Commercial EPC or DEC qualification and experience
+ Knowledge and experience with behaviour change and energy use
+ Experience with demand side management and/or energy storage
+ Experience with preparing Heat Decarbonisation Plans and/or PSDS applications for public sector clients
+ Experience or knowledge of TM54 operational energy modelling guidance and key principles
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ A good Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics or mathematics related discipline (building services and/or energy related qualifications are highly desirable), although strong candidates with other science backgrounds will be considered
+ A building sustainability/energy related MSc is desirable
If not currently chartered, should be working towards chartership with a relevant institution (e.g. CIBSE, Energy Institute, IMechE)
