We would like an ambitious and enthusiastic Consultant Neonatologist to join our friendly, dynamic, innovative and award winning team at Singleton level 3 NICU .
Singleton NICU provides a full range of neonatal critical care services for SW Wales catering to a birth population of approximately 10,000 per year. This is an exciting time to join our neonatal team following the opening of a new state of the art Transitional Care and Special Care unit, allowing for further expansion of critical care capacity.
The newly refurbished unit has excellent facilities and has one of the best family accommodations in Wales. We nurture a very pleasant working environment and are passionate about providing the highest standard of care. The unit has excellent benchmarked outcomes and is recognised for high quality innovative practices on antibiotic stewardship, family integrated care, neurodevelopmental follow up programme and predictive heart rate monitoring.
An 8 sessions post, 6 DCC and 2 SPA. Working exclusively in Neonatology to provide clinical leadership for the department. Providing both non-resident and resident consultant cover, participating in the regional 24 hour neonatal transport service, and contributing to teaching & training, quality improvement and research programmes.
The unit was the recipient of the 2017 NHS Wales Award for ‘Improving Quality Together’ methodology and was the only UK unit to be invited to showcase practices at the VON Annual Quality Congress in 2017.
You will share the workload required to cover the now permanent extension of the 12 hour consultant delivered transport service to 24 hours; Swansea contributes to this service on a 1:3 week basis with other regional centres.
This post will provide further consultant input into neonatal services to conform to recommended national standards for consultant cover, provide expertise into the now permanent 24h regional transport service and support neighbouring Health Boards with reorganisation of the roles of existing consultants.
You will be joining an enthusiastic, innovative and friendly team of 11 (10 WTE) Neonatal Consultants delivering high quality and family centered clinical services in neonatology for the Health Board and referral population of South West Wales.
The post comprises non-resident and resident on call Consultant duties. The resident duties will involve sharing the long days and night shift hours of one middle grade rota slot with other Consultants in hybrid roles. The remaining direct clinical care (DCC) sessions will be spent undertaking Consultant of the week duties (critical care and special care/ transitional care weeks), outpatient clinics, transport duties and non-resident Consultant on calls.
The unit provides 12.5 hours on-site Consultant cover during weekdays as part of the process of achieving BAPM recommendations for Consultant cover in Level 3 units. All Consultants remain on site until 21:00 hours before reverting to on-call duties from home.

Singleton is a University Teaching Hospital allied to the College of Medicine at the rapidly expanding Swansea University and is a designated training unit for higher specialist training in Wales.
