MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
STM currently manages a Neighbourhood Warden Service on behalf of our client.
Neighbourhood Wardens are provided to have a positive effect within the community helping reduce the number of incidents and occurrences increasing customer satisfaction.
Service Objectives
i. Develop and maintain an effective Neighbourhood Warden Service.
ii. Promote community safety and assist with environmental improvements, such as litter, graffiti, dog fouling and illegal occupancy/subletting.
iii. Reduce Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) fear of crime, disorder, and environmental issues. Work alongside governing bodies to improve quality of life and perception of the area. This will include engaging youth in divisionary activities and promoting community safety.
iv. Provide a rapid response to incidents of anti-social behaviour.
v. Provide presence and reassurance with uniformed patrols.
vi. Help build sustainable communities, foster social inclusion, and exchange information / local knowledge, improving community engagement.
vii. Support and assist law enforcement and other local governing bodies involved in the community.
viii. Signpost individuals with various issues to the appropriate agency promoting good citizenship.
ix. Provide assistance and support when required to vulnerable and elderly residents.
x. Provide assistance and support when required to emergency centres staff when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
The Neighbourhood Wardens shall provide the service in respect of the following categories of incidents problems and issues:
i. Misuse of drugs and alcohol & disposal of needles.
ii. Threats or fear of violence; dangerous dogs; crime, thefts, and assaults, abusive or threatening offensive language and behaviour, hate crime and/or racism.
iii. Public disturbances: including intimidating behaviour, unauthorised crowd congregation and loitering of individuals with or without intent.
iv. Local environment issues: Fly tipping, graffiti, dog fouling, littering, notification of untaxed/abandoned vehicles and vandalism.
v. Neighbour disputes and disturbances; including racial discrimination.
vi. Rough sleepers.
vii. Investigating Incidents of alleged noise and nuisance:
viii. Sharing information with governing bodies including police, community groups and tenants’ associations.
ix. Signposting to diversionary activities for local youths.
x. Check to ensure empty properties are safe and secure.
Key Competencies and Requirements
1. You will need to hold a valid SIA License
2. Must have an excellent level of communication and a good command of the English language as you will be interacting with the public daily.
3. Excellent written English is required as you will be required to write incident reports which could be used in court.
4. A desire to help people, deliver a pro-active level of customer service and be professional at all times is necessary as you will be the face of both STM and our clients organisation.
5. Excellent at conflict management and able to diffuse situations appropriately.
6. Similar experience is desirable although not essential.
Hours of work/shift times
Shift times can vary from 8 hours through to 12 hours, the work is predominantly night work finishing at the early hours of the morning so candidates must be able to get home at these times.
