Job description
Reporting to the QC Supervisor, you will co-ordinate company NDT inspection activities to ensure the required quality standards are achieved, maintained and improved.

British Engines Group company, BEL Engineering, offers sub-contract machining services specialising in large capacity, heavy duty, horizontal machining.
BEL Engineering works primarily in the defence, nuclear, renewables and oil and gas sectors and operates from an advanced manufacturing facility based in Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne.
What you’ll be doing
- Carry out day-to day NDT operations in accordance with specifications/ procedures
- Ensure quality system procedures are being adhered to and are operating effectively
- Complete in-process and final NDT inspection checks
- Process bookings, inspections and releases via IFS and sign relevant documentation
- Ensure component traceability/identification is present and correct
- Ensure that all Non-conforming material is identified and documented in accordance with internal procedures
- Raise Material Review Board (MRB) paperwork for all defective product
- Ensure process failures and improvement opportunities are brought to the attention of the process owner or QC Supervisor
- Ensure customer documentation and IFS transactions are correct and maintained to the required standard
- Support training of apprentices and trainees
- Ensure good housekeeping practices are adhered to at all times within the NDT area
- Ensure that you work in a safe manner and comply with the company’s Health, Safety & Environmental Policy
Who we’re looking for
You will have an apprenticeship certificate in the relevant discipline – engineering –and have qualifications in PCN Level 2 in Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) and Level 2 Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI). You must have demonstrable experience of working in an NDT inspection role in a similar environment, inspecting components for various industries. You will be able demonstrate your extensive knowledge and understanding of NDT inspection methods, reading and interpreting engineering drawings, procedures and specifications; as well as a strong understanding of accurately converting metric/imperial measurements.
We’re looking for someone who is able to deliver results in line with business deadlines, has excellent communication skills and can work effectively as part of a team. You will be someone who wants to pursue the highest level of customer service and focus on identifying opportunities to benefit customers.
A PCN Level 2 Visual Inspection is desirable, but not essential.
