Position Summary
Magellan Aerospace Blackpool has an exciting opportunity for an NC Programmer
Full Time Permanent Contract
40 hours per week.
Mon-Thu 7:30am – 4:30pm / Fri 7:30am – 1:30pm
Job location: Blackpool Business Park, Amy Johnson Way, Blackpool, FY4 2RP
Unionised site – works in partnership with Unite the Union.
The purpose of the role is to interpret customers’ specifications and engineering drawings and to engineer components using NC Programming/Verifying techniques. In addition, the role will involve driving down over capacity on machines to meet the company’s continuous improvement targets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Engineer components using NC programming carrying out the verification of various components on all CNC machines using hands on experience and practical application as and when required.
Creation of prove-out sheets and oversee prove out of new programs.
Liaise and support internal departments throughout the introduction of new or modified programs, creating prove-out sheets
Read, understand and interpret customer specifications and engineering drawings.
Design of various fixtures and jigs.
Creation of component part documentation to create a stable process and to achieve a set machine runtime.
Assist within all aspects of engineering the production process, material flow and machine utilisation.
Generation of technical reports to suit customers requirements.
React to shop floor requirements in a timely manner including provide problem solving support to minimise production downtime.
Produce programs in a reasonable time frame and to the required cycle times.
Work with the shop floor to improve existing methods including making improvements to machining techniques using the latest tooling.
Optimisation of existing processes to drive down over capacity on machines with the objective of reducing the quoted runtimes to resolve bottlenecks in manufacture to meet CI targets.
Ability to work under pressure, to tight time scales and in support of demands from the customer.
Ability to work unsupervised as well as part of a functional team.
Actively support and contribute to the continuous improvement programme and lean manufacturing whilst continually reviewing working practices to remove and reduce waste and non-value adding activities . Ensure that your work environment follows the principles of 6S.
Work in a safe manner complying with all risk assessments and procedures in line with company Health and Safety policy, taking a responsible approach to health & safety in relation to your own job role and to report any concerns to management as appropriate.
To carry out any other reasonable duties as required by management in support of a changing business environment in order to achieve organisational requirements
Skill/Knowledge Requirements
Academic:
Good level of education
Experience:
Good understanding of tooling selection for the required component.
Experienced machinist with working knowledge of hard metal and soft metal machining techniques
Key Competencies:
Advanced MasterCam and Vericut simulation software essential, experience of Catia V5 Programming, other CAD / CAM software beneficial
Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and customer specifications
High level of numeracy and literacy
