Job summary
We are looking to recruit a qualified and hardworking Band 6 Audiologist to join our fast-paced department that seeks to sustain and improve the operational efficiency of service personnel through improved occupational hearing and who would also have a desire to undertake coordinated research.
This position is located within the Defence Audiology Services (DAS) based at the Institute of Naval Medicine (INM) that brings together scientists and medical professionals to improve the health of the UK Armed Forces. This is an excellent opportunity to join a small, multidisciplinary team of clinical and health providers which supports MOD personnel operating across a wide range of occupational and environmental conditions at sea, in the air, and on land both in the UK and overseas.
This position is advertised at 37.5 hours per week.
Job description
The role requires comprehensive skills, knowledge and expertise in audiological investigations and their interpretation and when to refer for further assessments. DAS provides a full hearing aid and rehabilitation service; would you be able to improve this service?
The field of audiological hearing health is developing rapidly within Defence so the postholder will be required to be aware of technological advances and seek to improve to our service provision through applied research and audit. We do engage in research and some experience in this would be useful.

Person specification
A good planner is required, with the skills to deliver a quality service in a fast paced environment, handling resources and workload as appropriate to the clinical requirements. Being skilled at imparting sensitive, critical and complicated information to patients, staff and colleagues at all levels is also important to the role.
- Professional knowledge acquired through a BSc in Healthcare Science (Audiology)
- Specialist knowledge across a range of procedures underpinned by theory and evidence
- Registration as an Audiologist with Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists, Association for Clinical Scientists or the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Registration with HCPC as a Hearing Aid Dispenser would be an advantage.

There is no requirement to deploy overseas but the role will provide continuity of care, however there may be a small peripatetic role.

Further Information
Requests to work flexibly will be considered so may be full-time, part-time job share and flexible working. Please note the salary will be pro-rata where part time hours are undertaken.
